We're a reentry program dedicated to second chances, personal growth, and building brighter futures.

关于我们

The Journey Project empowers students to transform their lives and seamlessly integrate into the wider community. Through embracing personal responsibility, individuals embark on a journey towards a positive, productive, and purpose-driven future. Our aim is to guide individuals in discovering their life goals and crafting a vision, paving the way for a concrete plan to achieve these aspirations while fostering a pro-social environment within the community. We believe in the fundamental notion that each person is accountable for their own life. It's a realization that only through personal initiative can one truly alter their circumstances, behaviors, thoughts, and future. Recognizing each individual as unique, we advocate treating everyone as whole beings encompassing the mind, spirit, and body.

  • People who develop strong self-discipline are more likely to stay employed, build stable relationships, and avoid recidivism. Discipline isn’t about motivation—it’s about habits and consistency. ?? How to Strengthen Self-Discipline: ? Start With “Non-Negotiables” – Pick one thing you will always do daily (ex. making your bed, exercising for 5 minutes, reading for 10 minutes). ? Use the “2-Day Rule” – Never let yourself skip something twice. Miss a workout? Do it the next day. Forgot a journal entry? Write two sentences today. ? Plan Your Days – Having a structured daily plan reduces distractions and builds stronger focus. ? Accountability is Key – Check in with a mentor, a trusted friend, or a journal to track progress. ?? Fact: People who write their goals down and track their progress are 33% more likely to achieve them than those who don’t. ? “Discipline creates freedom—one habit at a time.” #SelfDiscipline #ReentryGrowth #StayFocused #reentrymatters #ReentrySuccess #ReentryGrowth #SecondChances #ReentryMindset #thejourneyprojecttukwila

  • Your brain isn’t fixed—it can literally rewire itself based on what you repeatedly think and do. This is called neuroplasticity, and it’s the key to breaking negative habits and building a stronger mindset after incarceration. ?? How to Rewire Your Brain for Success: ? Repeat Positive Self-Talk Daily – What you tell yourself shapes your reality. Instead of “I’ll never make it,” say “I am capable of change.” ? Surround Yourself with Positivity – The people and environment you choose influence your brain. Stay around uplifting influences. ? Replace Negative Triggers with Positive Actions – If stress makes you want to isolate, train yourself to go for a walk or talk to a mentor instead. ? Visualize Success – Studies show that visualizing your goals daily increases the chances of achieving them by 42%. ?? Fact: The brain can form new habits in just 21-66 days of repetition—every small step counts. ? “You are not your past. You are what you consistently do.” #BrainPower #ReentryMindset #GrowthAndChange #ReentrySuccess #MindsetMatters #SecondChances #reentrymatters #ReentryGrowth #thejourneyprojecttukwila

  • Confidence isn’t something you’re born with—it’s built through small wins over time. The Micro-Win Strategy helps you gain confidence by stacking tiny successes every day. ?? How to Build Confidence in 3 Steps: ? Start Small – Choose something easy to accomplish today (ex. making your bed, sending an email, going for a short walk). ? Track Your Wins – Write down one thing you did well each day, no matter how small. Over time, you’ll see proof that you are making progress. ? Celebrate Yourself – Instead of waiting for others to validate you, acknowledge your own growth. ?? Tip: Confidence is like a muscle—the more small wins you stack, the stronger it gets! ? “Success is built on small wins—stack them daily.” #BuildConfidence #SmallWinsBigImpact #BelieveInYourself #reentrymatters #SecondChances #ReentryGrowth #ReentrySuccess #MindsetMatters #thejourneyprojecttukwila

  • Many people waste time and energy stressing over things they can’t control—like the past, other people’s opinions, or rejection. But success comes from focusing only on what you CAN control. ?? How to Use the “Circle of Control” Technique: ? Draw Two Circles – A big circle labeled “Things I Worry About” and a smaller one inside labeled “Things I Can Control”. ? List Your Worries in the Outer Circle – Examples: Past mistakes, other people’s opinions, job rejections. ? List Actions in the Inner Circle – Examples: Applying to new jobs, improving your skills, staying disciplined. ? Take Action on the Inner Circle – Stop wasting time on what you can’t change and focus on what moves you forward. ?? Tip: When stressed, ask yourself—Am I focusing on something I can control? If not, shift your energy to what actually helps. ? “Energy spent on what you can’t control is energy wasted. Focus forward.” #ControlWhatMatters #MindsetShift #ReentrySuccess #ReentryGrowth #SecondChances #reentrymatters #MindsetMatters #thejourneyprojecttukwila

  • Your brain has an internal “negativity bias” that makes you remember bad experiences more strongly than good ones. This can lead to feelings of self-doubt and frustration, especially during reentry. The 2-Minute Reset helps shift your mindset fast! ?? How to Reset Your Mind in 2 Minutes: ? Pause & Identify – Notice when you’re thinking negatively. What triggered it? ? Breathe & Ground Yourself – Take 5 deep breaths and focus on what is real right now. ? Challenge the Thought – Ask yourself, Is this thought 100% true? What’s another way to see this? ? Replace It with a Positive Focus – Instead of “I’m failing,” say “I’m learning and improving every day.” ?? Tip: Keep a small notebook where you write one positive thing about yourself every day. This builds a habit of self-encouragement instead of self-doubt. ? “Your thoughts shape your future—train your mind like you train your body.” #MindsetReset #StayPositive #MentalStrength #ReentryGrowth #ReentrySuccess #SecondChances #MindsetMatters #reentrymatters #thejourneyprojecttukwila

  • At The Journey Project, we believe in the power of community, compassion, and second chances. Today, we are beyond grateful to Tzu Chi Foundation for their incredible generosity in helping one of our participants, Shawn Hatfield, during a tough time. Shawn has been working tirelessly to rebuild his life since his release just two months ago. He secured stable housing, got a job, and was thriving—until he had his essential work gear stolen. But thanks to the kindness of Tzu Chi Foundation and the coordination efforts of Michael Florez, Shawn received everything he needed to continue working and moving forward. This wasn’t just a donation; it was a lifeline. It was a message of hope that when life throws a challenge our way, there are good people ready to lift us back up. A huge THANK YOU to Tzu Chi Foundation and Michael Florez for making this happen. Your support means the world, not just to Shawn, but to all of us at The Journey Project. Because of you, he can continue his journey with dignity, confidence, and the knowledge that his community stands behind him. Let’s continue to lift each other up and remind the world that second chances are worth fighting for! • Psychologists found that people who visualize their “future self” are more likely to make positive choices today. Thinking about the person you want to become makes it easier to avoid bad habits and stay motivated. ?? How to Use “Future Self” Thinking: ? Write a Letter to Your Future Self – Where do you want to be in 6 months? 1 year? Describe your goals and dreams as if they have already happened. ? Make Decisions with Your Future Self in Mind – Before making a choice, ask: Would my future self thank me for this? ? Picture Your Success Daily – Spend 5 minutes each morning visualizing yourself thriving in your career, relationships, and health. ?? Tip: Print a picture or quote that represents who you are becoming and keep it somewhere visible—it will remind you to stay on track! ? “Your future is being created by what you do today, not tomorrow.” #FutureSelf #VisualizeSuccess #MindsetMatters #ReentrySuccess #reentrymatters #thejourneyprojecttukwila #SecondChances #ReentryGrowth
