Pinch me—did that just happen at The Jones Center?!? Le Patin Libre’s Murmuration performance was among the most beautiful artistic performances I’ve ever seen. It challenges conventional thinking around figure skating. Inspired by the behaviors of migrating birds, the choreography blends art, nature, and athleticism. Downtown Springdale, Arkansas is the southern most U.S. city in which the Canadian artists have performed, and they did so for a diverse and excited audience of all ages. P.S. The cherry on top was that in the gym next to the ice arena a dozen local teens were playing volleyball, and across the hall in the conference center a large family was having a party—all at the same time a couple hundred people enjoyed an ice performance. It was a hopping Saturday night! Community centers are amazing, and Northwest Arkansas has THE best.

Mother Nature had a mind of her own, but the 2024 Jones Center Bike Festival went off as planned! Ages 2-10 got their first taste of competition at the OZ Kids Fat Tire Crit, while BMX racers tested their skills at the Pump Track Championship Presented by Hyper Bicycles. The bike festival is just one of the ways we bring diverse programs and experiences to Downtown Springdale. At events like these, we’re a hub for healthy, fun pursuits – where people of all ages, ethnicities and socioeconomic statuses can come to connect and be social. Our dream is for every child in Springdale to learn to swim. It's a?big dream, but we are starting with a first step – teaching a class of local elementary students how to swim through our?new Every Child Swims?program. In September, 75 third-graders were swim tested at the Jones Center.?80% did not pass.?In response, we are providing each of those children with #free after-school swimming lessons, including transportation. Swimming is more than a fun activity; it builds confidence and is a crucial lifesaving skill.
