Starting our day of meetings in Ghana, Africa ???? with two members of the amazing I-DIEM Africa team at the Canadian High Commission. The impacts of #climatechange on West Africa have been significant and the challenges in the days ahead seem insurmountable. However, being an American with an African heritage gives me the courage to hope in the future. Our DNA embodies #resilience #ClimateAction

When disaster strikes, the recovery process should be about rebuilding lives—not leaving people behind. Yet for too many communities of color, systemic housing discrimination and gentrification make that impossible. Racist policies like redlining continue to haunt recovery efforts, pushing families out of their homes and communities. We must confront these inequities head-on to ensure fair, inclusive recovery for everyone. It’s time to challenge the system and break down these barriers. What happens when disaster response prioritizes people over plans? Can unseen biases determine who gets help first? As disaster responders face the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, we have to ask the tough questions. With over 155 biases identified by research by Harvard University, how do these unconscious perspectives shape decisions in times of crisis? At every level, biases can affect which communities receive aid and how quickly they recover. Your donation will help change this bias: www.I-DIEM.org/Donate Thank you CNN for sitting down with our CEO, Chauncia Willis-Johnson #DisasterBias #EmergencyRecovery #IDIEM

Communities of color shouldn’t have to fight two battles: one against the disaster and another against systemic racism. Yet, after every crisis, too many families face permanent displacement because of housing discrimination. Predatory lending, gentrification, and redlining still prevent these communities from rebuilding and recovering. ?? We must do better! Rebuilding stronger means rebuilding fairly. Let’s take action now to ensure every community has a fair chance to return home. ?? Donate today: www.I-DIEM.org/Donate #HousingEquity #DisasterResponse #InclusiveRecovery #RebuildingStronger
