关于我们

Contact us about trainings: [email protected] The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program facilitates dialogue and education across profound social differences. Inside-Out courses bring traditional college students and incarcerated students together in jails and prisons for semester-long learning. These courses ignite enthusiasm for learning, encourage students to find their voice, and challenge participants to consider how they can make change in the world. Founded by Lori Pompa at Temple University in 1997.

  • Join us this Wednesday - please share with your network! The Samuel Centre for Social Connectedness provides fellowships each summer for people around the world who are working in varying social justice pursuits. This year, two of our Inside-Out Coaches — Kenny Butler and Joe Schwartz — were chosen for this highly-regarded fellowship opportunity. They focused their research on the impact on instructors of the involvement of Inside-Out’s formerly-incarcerated coaches through our virtual Inside-Out Instructor Trainings, as well as the impact on the coaches themselves of this involvement. So much of what Inside-Out does has to do with social connectedness, so that provides the undergirding for both research projects. Zoom Link: https://lnkd.in/e7sf7kWb We are excited to provide Kenny and Joe the space to share their research findings with the Inside-Out network through a Zoom Conversation, being held THIS Wednesday (November 20th), from 3:00pm to 4:15pm EST. All are welcome! Please feel free to share this information with anyone who may be interested in attending.

  • Inside-Out Team from Marquette University visits Pitzer College By Kenneth Butler On October 10, 2024, the remarkable Inside-Out team from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, visited Pitzer College in California. The team came out to California – the state that leads the nation in prison education programs – to explore the possibility of developing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) pathway program based on the Inside-Out pedagogy. Pitzer College joined the Inside-Out team in 2014 and launched the first-ever BA Pathway program based on the Inside-Out pedagogy in 2020. I initiated the idea in the Inside-Out Think Tank at the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco, California. I hold the distinction of being the co-founder of the program. The visit included a delightful lunch in the Pitzer dining hall, where conversations flowed between the Pitzer faculty, Bernie Hernandez (one of our Pitzer alumni), and me. The setting allowed us to engage in meaningful discussions and reflect on what it took to launch the Pitzer program. After lunch, Bernie and I took the team for a tour around the Claremont Colleges, where more conversations ensued. I shared my reentry experience and how the Pitzer community embraced me during my transition. My journey underscores how a supportive network can be cultivated and the impact the Inside-Out community can have on returning citizens.
