Last month, HYM’s Thomas O'Brien proudly co-chaired the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston’s 2025 Annual Dinner alongside MassBio CEO Kendalle Burlin O'Connell, Esq. We are continually inspired by the work that the Boys and Girls Clubs do to ensure that every young person, regardless of their zip code, has access to opportunities and mentorship. Congratulations to HYM partner and Chief Executive Officer Thomas O'Brien on being named to the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Conservancy's Board of Directors. Green space like the Rose Kennedy Greenway helps to connect our neighborhoods and create opportunities for our community to join together, relax, unwind, have fun and explore. Thank you, Governor Healey, for the nomination to the board and the opportunity to continue the Greenway’s vibrant and inclusive work. https://lnkd.in/dGGETtD3

Last week we celebrated the official grand opening of Amaya, our first residential building at Suffolk Downs. Alongside our partners at National Real Estate Advisors, Cathexis, Ullico Inc., and with leaders of Revere including Mayor Patrick Keefe, Jr., Ward One City Councilor Joanne McKenna,?State Representative Turco and other elected officials, the ribbon cutting ceremony underscored Amaya’s success and strong leasing momentum achieved since first move-ins began in June 2024. Amaya brings 475-units of housing, over 34,000 square feet of state-of-the-art amenities and 24,000 square feet of ground-level retail space to the Beachmont Square neighborhood. The event showcased performances by Veronica Robles Cultural Center (VROCC)’s all female mariachi band, local catering from La Hacienda, brews from our new Suffolk Downs retailer Twisted Fate as well as a signature Amayarita cocktail. Thanks to all who joined us on Thursday and to everyone who made this project possible!

One of the guiding principles of HYM’s vision for Suffolk Downs has always been, simply put, to create a place that is fun. We’re excited to announce that we have signed our first retail lease and look forward to bringing the fun by welcoming Twisted Fate Brewery to Beachmont Square. The new taproom and patio will feature a diverse selection of craft beers, ranging from the refreshing tastes of Twisted Fate’s lagering programs to the hoppy depths of their New England IPAS, to the rich warmth of their year-round stouts, and more. Twisted Fate will be located in a prime retail location on the ground floor of Amaya, the first residential building on site, and look forward to serving our residents, neighbors and visitors to Suffolk Downs in 2025! For My City at Peace and HYM, community and teamwork have always been two of the key principles that shaped our plans for the redevelopment of Parcel 3 in Roxbury. Shabazz Napier’s investment into P3 personifies these principles, as a Mission Hill-born basketball player who is committed to giving back to the neighborhood that raised him. Amaya is designed with a fresh, dynamic approach that appeals to a broader, younger audience while embracing diversity. We invited MassLive to tour Suffolk Downs’ first residential building and discussed how its modern amenities and engaging community spaces set the tone for making the first phase of the site’s redevelopment a game-changer. Art has always had a place at Suffolk Downs, and we’re excited to continue that tradition with the addition of a new mural at our first residential building, Amaya. Internationally acclaimed French artist Julien Colombier has made his United States debut with us in Revere on a 2,700 square foot hand painted mural located on the ground floor fa?ade of the building, lining the new Beachmont Plaza and turning the corner onto a brand-new Salt Street. The mural integrates themes of climate resiliency and ecological preservation, aligning with HYM’s commitment to prioritizing sustainable design at Suffolk Downs. Learn more in the Boston Globe’s coverage of Julien’s work or stop by Amaya to check it out yourself!: https://lnkd.in/ehrqAU95

A misleading headline. With a total investment of approximately $600M on the site to date, the redevelopment of Suffolk Downs is certainly not “on hold indefinitely”. However, this article does a good job in highlighting a key issue being felt across our industry: high interest rates and costs of labor and materials are making housing projects across the state incredibly difficult to finance. While HYM continues to work on key infrastructure and commercial pieces across the 161-acre site at Suffolk Downs, we look forward to working on creative and collaborative solutions with the State and our partners to break ground on the next units of much needed housing.
