  • Finding Peace Amidst Turbulence "A calm mind can see the path through any storm. Take a deep breath and trust that you have the strength to face what comes." ???? Today, we reflect on the journey of Aung San Suu Kyi, a woman whose quiet strength became a lifeline for her country. Born in Myanmar (then Burma), Suu Kyi had lived abroad for many years, studying at Oxford and later settling in the UK with her husband, Michael Aris, and their two sons. Her life could have remained peaceful and private, but in 1988, she returned to Myanmar to care for her ailing mother, just as the country was gripped by political turmoil. Seeing the unrest and the people’s struggle for democracy, Suu Kyi felt a profound call to action. Inspired by her father, Aung San, a revered hero of Burmese independence, she began speaking out against the military regime, advocating for freedom and justice through nonviolent means. Her words and peaceful approach quickly gained traction, and she became the leader of the pro-democracy movement, founding the National League for Democracy (NLD). However, the ruling military junta saw her growing influence as a threat and placed her under house arrest, confining her to her home for almost 15 of the next 21 years. They hoped isolation would silence her. But instead of allowing fear or frustration to consume her, Suu Kyi found strength within, using the quiet of confinement as a time to reflect, focus, and deepen her commitment to her people’s freedom. What strikes me most is Suu Kyi’s ability to keep a steady heart amidst such extreme adversity. She famously said, “You should never let your fears prevent you from doing what you know is right.” Instead of letting fear deter her, she drew strength from a vision of peace, a courage that didn’t need recognition—just an unwavering belief in the truth she held. Her story reminds us that real power often lies in stillness and clarity. A calm mind, like hers, doesn’t just survive the storm; it finds a way to rise above it, lighting the way for others. Suu Kyi’s journey encourages each of us to find that inner strength, to connect with our “etymos,” our truest essence, and face our own challenges with grace. Today, let’s breathe, steady ourselves, and remember that, like her, we, too, have the strength to navigate whatever comes our way. Whether it is parenting kindly, collaborating effectively, or being a peaceful member of society at large; each challenge deserves our love, care and attention.???? #AwakenedVoices #AungSanSuuKyi #ReflectingOnTheBeautyThatUnitesUsAll #CourageInCalm #StrengthInStillness #RisingAboveFear

  • Tonight, we want to share a story that is one of proving what a single human is truly capable of. It’s the story of Wangari Maathai, a woman from Kenya whose unwavering determination changed the lives of so many. Wangari wasn’t just an environmental activist; she was a symbol of what it means to rise above fear and keep going, even when everything seems stacked against you. Wangari grew up surrounded by the lush, green landscapes of Kenya, a place where nature was deeply woven into the rhythm of daily life. But over the years, she watched as forests were cut down, rivers dried up, and the land she loved began to suffer. Most people might have felt powerless in the face of such destruction, but not Wangari. Instead of being overwhelmed, she saw an opportunity to heal both the land and the people connected to it. In 1977, she founded the Green Belt Movement, a simple and beautifully idealistic initiative: plant trees to restore the environment and empower women at the same time. At first, it seemed like a small act—teaching women to plant trees—but it was much more than that. ?? It gave people a sense of purpose, a way to reclaim their land, and a belief that they could make a difference. Of course, standing up for change isn’t always welcome, and Wangari faced intense backlash from the Kenyan government. Her peaceful protests for democracy and environmental rights were met with hostility. She was arrested, beaten, and labeled a troublemaker. Yet, even in those moments when fear must have felt like a heavy shadow, she found a way to remain calm. She kept moving forward, one tree, one voice, one step at a time. What we love most about her story is how she managed to stay centered. When asked how she kept going, she would often speak of the strength found in nature, of how planting a single seed could eventually grow into a forest. What a wonderful reminder that no matter how turbulent life gets, we can always find a moment of stillness. We each have something in our hearts that can carry us through the hardest days. In 2004, Wangari became the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, not just for her environmental work but for showing how peace and sustainable development go hand in hand. She proved that even the smallest actions, when rooted in a calm mind and a steadfast heart, can change the world. ??? So tonight, as we think about what it means to rise above fear let's reflect on what it must have felt like to steadily hold onto hope and take continual steps forward. ????? Join us at The Human Greatness Project as we explore the power of resilience, unity, and the strength within us all. Let’s build a future that honors the courage of those who came before, while creating space for new possibilities. What seeds will you plant today? ?? https://gofund.me/b9ae645c #AwakenedVoices #TheHumanGreatnessProject #ReflectingOnTheBeautyThatUnitesUsAll #PlantingSeeds #InnerStrength #RiseAboveFear

  • A Voice That Changed History Few stories embody the power of speaking truth to power like that of Frederick Douglass. Born into slavery in 1818, Douglass endured unimaginable hardships. He faced forced labor, deprivation, and constant threats. Yet, amid these dark realities, he held onto a belief that a different life was possible. At 20, Douglass made a daring escape from slavery, fleeing to the North. This decision came at great personal risk, as recapture would mean a return to bondage. But Douglass knew that to be truly free, he had to shed the fear that kept so many enslaved in body and spirit. ??? Once free, Douglass didn’t just secure his own freedom; his actions helped secure the freedom of others as well. His oratory skills exposed the brutal realities of slavery, calling the nation to confront its contradictions. In 1845, he published Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, a book that challenged slavery and humanized the enslaved. Beyond words, Douglass supported the Underground Railroad, aiding others seeking freedom. During the Civil War, he pushed for Black enlistment in the Union Army, believing it crucial to the war and equality. His leadership helped shape the abolitionist movement and the end of slavery in the U.S. Douglass’s story reminds us that speaking out—shedding fear and embracing truth—can change the world. He knew fear doesn’t have to be a roadblock. By sharing his experiences, he opened the door to conversations about freedom and justice, inspiring others to join the fight. At The Human Greatness Project, we believe that each of us has the power to create change by letting go of fear and embracing new possibilities. Today, as we reflect on Douglass's legacy, let's ask: What possibilities could we open up if we let go of fear and embrace love? How can we use our voices to make a difference, no matter how daunting the challenge? ??? Let’s honor Douglass’s legacy by finding the courage to speak up, to share our truths, and to embrace the possibilities that come with being our most authentic selves.?? #AwakenedVoices #ReflectingOnTheBeautyThatUnitesUsAll #FrederickDouglass #TheHumanGreatnessProject #CourageInAction #TruthToPower Join us at The Human Greatness Project as we explore the power of resilience, unity, and the strength within us all. • A Story of Courage, Unity, and Rising Above Fear Nelson Mandela's journey has long been a source of inspiration for those who believe in resilience and unity. His life exemplifies what’s possible when one person refuses to let fear dictate their actions, and remains peaceful—even when the stakes are high. Mandela grew up in a South Africa divided by apartheid, a system built on fear. For many, fear was a constant reminder of the consequences of stepping out of line. But Mandela saw a different path—a future where people of all backgrounds could coexist, where walls of separation could crumble, and where humanity could guide a nation to healing. It wasn’t easy. For Mandela, speaking out meant facing immense personal risk. He endured 27 years in prison, separated from his family, his people, and the life he knew. Yet, even in those darkest moments, he held onto a vision of a better South Africa—one built on equality, fairness, and unity. Mandela’s strength came not from ignoring fear, but from acknowledging it and moving forward anyway. It’s human to feel afraid, especially if the world seems to be pulling apart. But fear is also an invitation—to ask ourselves what kind of future we want to create, and to find the courage to take even the smallest step toward it. When Mandela emerged from prison, he chose peaceful reconciliation. He believed that South Africa’s wounds could heal through understanding and mutual respect. He extended his hand to those who once saw him as an enemy, inviting them to envision a new future together. It was a move that took unimaginable strength, but it was rooted in his belief that every person has the capacity for change. Mandela’s life reminds us that systems built on fear can be dismantled when enough people choose to rise above that fear. It starts with one voice, then another—until a chorus calls for change. It’s about breathing through discomfort and moving forward, even when the path isn’t clear. At The Human Greatness Project, we believe that change is within each of us. Mandela’s legacy calls us to reflect on human commonalities, and to find our own way of contributing to a more humane and compassionate world. His story isn’t just about one man—it’s about what’s possible when ordinary people make extraordinary choices. Tonight, let’s honor Mandela’s example by taking a moment to breathe in courage and breathe out doubt. Let’s remind ourselves that fear is a signal, but it doesn’t have to be a roadblock. When we let our hearts guide us, we become part of a movement that transcends any one moment in time. #AwakenedVoices #TheHumanGreatnessProject #ReflectingOnTheBeautyThatUnitesUsAll #EverydayCourage #RisingAboveFear #UnityInAction Join us at The Human Greatness Project as we explore the power of resilience, unity, and the strength within us all. • I’m grateful to share this inspiring reflection from The Human Greatness Project this morning. Courage is not the equivalent of being fearless. In fact, I’ve found that courage is effortless when fear is not the focus at all. When my focus is fixed on a better outcome, and, the details of how to achieve that outcome are what I talk about, I’ve brought incredible things into reality. Things I wouldn’t have believed possible. A small but mighty example: choosing to jump in and redirect a conversation to protect a peer. Especially if the alternative is watching that peer be taken advantage of. The silent goodness of such an act is powerful, especially the respectful help extended to the instigators. It’s an opportunity for them to pause and recognize how their intentions are evident and need to be recalibrated. Likewise it protects the right to freedom, and safety from predators, on behalf of the peer. We have so many historical examples of how to navigate tough times. Those who call out from the past and remind us about taking small steps forward, even when the path is uncertain. Your actions matter every day. Remember that. Take a moment to read The Human Greatness Project’s article, which beautifully reflects on a man whose actions from the past continue to resonate today. I deeply appreciate these real-life reminders of true faith in humanity. Working with young children for 20 years, then transitioning to Corporate America, has reinforced one powerful truth: a single voice can create change. The child who speaks up for a friend at age 3 and is met with love and validation from caring adults can grow into the 40-year-old who goes against the grain and rather than diminishing a co-worker in dire straits, directs them to assistance that makes all the difference. Let’s honor our innate spirit today by being a little kinder, a little braver, and a little more true to ourselves—and to others. #TheHumanGreatnessProject #FaithInAction #EverydayCourage #AuthenticLiving Give Today: https://gofund.me/b9ae645c

Live A Life of Faith, Love, and Courage True courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to move forward despite it. Oftentimes it involves following your heart. Take one step today, however small, toward your most authentic self. Notice that your authentic self is drawn to love, it yearns for comfort, it reminds you to keep seeking for your unique vitality and (for some reason you know it) is inherently good. Some stories stay with us because they show us what’s possible when we choose love over fear. Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s life is one of those stories—marked by faith, courage, and a deep love for his community. As a German pastor, he navigated a time when staying true to his belief in the value of each human life was dangerous. Bonhoeffer wasn’t just a preacher; he cared deeply about the people around him. He believed in faith’s power to uplift, especially in dark times. When he saw leaders twisting religious values to serve their interests, he didn’t stay silent. He watched as fear started to replace hope and rather than freeze, he took action—not with grand gestures but through consistent, meaningful steps. He helped form the Confessing Church, a place of refuge, when the official church had compromised its values. This was a place where people could hold on to truth. His decision was risky; but born out of love for his community and a desire to provide a safe space. Bonhoeffer’s faith called him to speak up, even when the cost was high. His journey led him to resist those who would try to control him directly. Alrhough he knew the risks he knew that love sometimes means taking action, however small. He offered words of hope and comfort, even when he himself was isolated. His life is a reminder that courage isn’t about fearlessness but about deep conviction and actions that reflect that conviction. Bonhoeffer reminds us that courage grows through the small steps we take every day. When you are there for someone, when you choose to speak up when things don’t feel right, and when you trust that these steps matter. Today, we all face moments where we must decide whether to stay silent or take that small, brave step. Be willing to keep trusting your innate goodness and to keep moving forward peacefully. At The Human Greatness Project, we believe that change is within each of us, and we can start to let it out beginning with a whisper rather than a roar. Let’s honor that spirit today. Let’s be a little kinder, a little braver, and a little more true to ourselves. #AwakenedVoices #TheHumanGreatnessProject #ReflectingOnTheBeautyThatUnitesUsAll #EverydayCourage #FaithInAction #AuthenticLiving Give Today: https://gofund.me/b9ae645c

  • Why Quitting Misaligned Values is Crucial for Future Leadership In today’s world, leaders face constant pressure to succeed and innovate. However, as Nick Tasler emphasizes in Why Quitters Win, sometimes the key to success isn’t perseverance—it’s knowing when to quit. Quitting misaligned or outdated values is a powerful, strategic tool that helps leaders realign their focus on what truly matters. For leadership to be truly impactful, it’s essential to reassess which values drive positive change and which hold us back. Tasler reminds us that holding on to values no longer serving progress can prevent growth. Leaders clinging to exclusion, division, or outdated success metrics risk long-term damage. The real strength comes from recognizing when to let go of values that divide, limit creativity, or prevent collaboration. Four Universal Values to Realign Leadership 1. Achievement: Focus on future growth rather than old definitions of success. Embrace innovation, not stagnation. 2. Connection: Leaders thrive when prioritizing unity and collaboration over division. 3. Security: Distinguish between stability and stagnation. Quitting fear-based values leads to resilience. 4. Freedom: True leadership empowers others. Leaders embracing freedom foster autonomy and inclusivity. Empowerment Through Quitting Quitting the wrong values isn’t failure—it’s focus. Leaders who quit misaligned values make room for progress, stronger connections, and sustainable success. It’s time to reflect on what you’re willing to let go of to become the leader of tomorrow. Call to Action The Human Greatness Project embraces this philosophy of strategic quitting to empower individuals and communities globally. We aim to realign leadership with values that foster connection, empowerment, and growth. • What Will We Choose to Accomplish? At this critical moment in human history, one question emerges: What will we, as the most influential species on Earth, choose to accomplish with our time and resources? This question invites us to think beyond immediate goals and consider the heritage we leave behind. The Pre-Aspirational Moment: Defining Our Collective Heritage Before setting goals, there is a moment for reflection—a chance to think about not just what we hope to achieve, but the heritage we will to leave. This moment allows us to consider our impact, not just for ourselves, but for future generations. What kind of world do we want to create? What values, advancements, and innovations will define our time? These questions call us to reflect on our journey and shape it consciously. Expanding Our Aspirations: Beyond Personal Success Often, our aspirations focus on personal achievements—career, wealth, or recognition. But what if we expanded our thinking to ask how our actions today could contribute to a thriving, sustainable future for all? Can we envision a world where our ambitions align with the greater good and success is measured by collective progress? What if we aimed to: Protect Our Planet: As stewards of Earth, we can safeguard its ecosystems. How will we balance human progress with nature’s well-being? Build Unity and Understanding: In a divided world, our legacy could be one of connection and empathy. What bridges will we build across cultures, faiths, and perspectives? Innovate for the Future: With rapid technological advancements, how will we tackle global challenges like hunger, poverty, and climate change? Choosing a Heritage of Meaningful Actions The heritage we leave is shaped not just by grand achievements but by everyday decisions—kindness to others, empathy, and standing up for what is right. If viewed through the eyes of future generations, how might our choices change? Would we invest more in sustainability, equality, and community? Our Power to Shape the Future Our choices today shape humanity's future. The question is not just what we can achieve, but what we will choose to accomplish. Let us aim to be remembered for the right reasons, leaving a heritage of courage, compassion, and a pursuit of a fairer world. What Will We Choose? What will your contribution be to the human story? How will you shape our future? The answers lie within us all. Join the conversation.
