Last week was Match day for hospital organizations to select their residency programs picks. Congrats to all the matches!!! Now, organizations let's take a stepback and look at the the communities we serve and the opportunity to match providers with the diverse cultures that we serve. Have you given them access to someone that shares their cultural background who can now apply that knowledge to a treatment plan and removed the barrier for the patient to engage wholeheartedly? If so, then you have the privilege of saying CHECKMATE. #matchday #DEI

Rest is progress! What will do once you've rested? Let the HR Guidance be your thought partner.
Today, on National Black Woman's Day of Rest, I decided to prioritize self-care by taking a break from my 9 to 5 routine. Despite not being a breakfast person, I realized how neglecting meals like breakfast and lunch has become a regular occurrence since returning to the office. Reflecting on these habits, I chose to spend the day at a cozy coffee shop, focusing on my passion projects and nourishing myself with a proper breakfast. This year, my focus is on self-investment and pursuing activities that bring me joy (#passionoverpoison??). As I evaluate my Q1 progress in 2025, I'm confronting the challenge of prioritizing myself as much as I do others in my life. Am I truly deserving of this level of care and attention? Taking a day off today is a crucial step in realigning with my goals for the remaining quarters of the year. Just as I dedicate myself to my employer, colleagues, and clients, I recognize the importance of extending that dedication to my own well-being. Do you struggle to prioritize self-care? Have work demands blurred the lines between personal and professional life? Are you actively pursuing your dreams or allowing them to remain dormant within you? Are you willing to invest in yourself? As I grapple with these questions, I confront uncomfortable truths. Yet, embracing self-awareness is a vital stride towards personal growth. Today's rest is not idleness but a form of progress, setting the stage for a more empowered tomorrow where I can chase my dreams wholeheartedly and practice self-care consistently (including enjoying breakfast??). Remember, rest is an essential part of progress. #strategy #planning #selfdiscovery #blackwoman #restisprogress #nationalblackwomansrestday

Nothing makes me smile more than a compliment from another Women! We are known for our cattiness; our assertiveness is often mistaken for bitchiness, and we get a bad wrap for things our male counterparts are praised for. So when we show up for each other, I can't help but smile. Today, on this International Women's Day, let's make sure we are being kind to each other. Truth be told, we have so many other things not working in our favor, and we can't afford not to stick up for each other EVERY day. If you haven't already complimented a woman today, find one to celebrate. That compliment won't only make the receivers day, I guarantee it will make your day, too! Happy International Women's day from your favorite HR Guidance Counselor!

Today kicks off Black History Month. I celebrate my ancestors everyday of the year but taking into account our current political climate I am being more deliberate this year. Join me this month in supporting Black businesses. Make your dollar count. Research companies that sell products you use on a normal basis and spend your money with them. As for me, I am signing up for a monthly membership at I am Yogi Studios in Queens, NY - the first Black owned hot yoga studio in the city! How are you celebrating and honoring Black History this month?

I remember sitting through a performance management discussion years ago and my manager praising me for being RESILIENT. My response back then has been even more true for me this past week - "What about you stop putting me in situations where I am required to bounce back or fight myself out of?" Yes, we are resilient, but we would much rather not have to ALWAYS exercise that superpower! To my female circle, who else just needs a moment to be vulnerable and fragile? #passionoverpoison??

Today is World Mental Health Day so do yourself a favor and be kind to your mind. I just took a week off for vacation, and was intentional about checking out of work, leaving my laptop behind, and not opting for an international phone plan. I came back to a barrage of emails and a laundry list of things to do. But guess what? I was at peace because I understand the importance of ME! I love my job and I love myself even more. I choose to be kind to myself not only when I'm off from work but when I'm at work also. Vacation allowed me to press pause, reset, and approach my work life differently. How are you being kind to your mind? #passionoverpoison??

This video hit home! As I reflect on my journey before being laidoff in 2023, I admit I was contemplating the importance of aligning work with my personal core values. My work life at that time was not checking all my boxes and I was selling myself short. It's crucial to find the right balance. Your job is important but it shouldn't be your everything. Prioritize your mental health by pursuing what truly matters. #passionoverpoison?? #stayready #familyfirst #corevalues #alignment

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been in meetings where I've witnessed participants preface their dialogue with "I'm sorry, " before providing valuable insight to how they feel about certain situations that impact how they work. I've heard apologies for sounding like they are complaining, disruptive, or a contrarian. It got me to think of why we feel that at work we feel the need to apologize for sharing our true concerns. As a leader, it also called into question what type of culture I maybe fostering that does not allow team members to feel psychologically safe to speak freely. Although I try to provide an environment where everyone's voice and opinion has space, I realize that many of us still don't embrace the freedom to openly express our opinions. If you are reading this post, I challenge you to normalize not being sorry for taking a stand, voicing your opinion, or advocating for yourself. And if you are a leader, take some time to reflect on what you could do differently to create a safer space for constructive and diverse dialogue. #notsorry #psychologicalsafety #diversedialogue
