We are committed to a Howard County free from systemic inequities, where all people can live abundant and healthy lives.
关于我们
The Horizon Foundation is the largest independent health philanthropy in Maryland. We envision a Howard County free from systemic inequities, where all people can live abundant and healthy lives. We work side-by-side with community to build power, advocate for policy change and dismantle structural racism to achieve better health for everyone in Howard County and greater Maryland. Though our strategic priority areas and tactics have evolved over the years, our focus has always been to improve public health in our community, especially for those who face the most significant barriers to achieving good health. Since our founding in 1998, we have invested $78 million in public health, funding over 400 community groups and working with a number of partners on issues such as mental health, chronic disease prevention, health care access, healthy aging and more. Our latest strategic plan demonstrates the Foundation’s bold commitment to lead as an anti-racist, trust-centered philanthropy, and to partner with community to drive impact in areas of greatest need. Our current focus areas are: demand an equitable health care system, increase affordability and build wealth and dismantle structural racism through community building.

Our team has been busy going to Annapolis this month to advocate for legislation to support health equity in Maryland. This week, members of the Healthier Choices Coalition joined state partners in advocating for the For Our Kids Act. We spoke with state lawmakers about why this bill is a win-win for public health and working families. This bill guarantees healthier school meals for all students and restores childcare funding in the state budget, all funded by a sugary drink tax. Want to help?https://bit.ly/4iK0GW0

Last week, we joined our partners, the American Heart Association of Maryland, in Annapolis to show our support for the For Our Kids Act. This legislation would make our children and communities healthier by reducing chronic diseases associated with sugary drinks while investing in healthy school meals and early childcare support. According to a recent survey, a quarter of Maryland high school students reported their mental health was not good all or most of the time. Recognizing the urgency of this issue, Maryland leaders approved hundreds of millions of dollars to invest in mental health care in schools and expand access to care for youth. Now the majority of that funding is at risk of being cut from the budget. Reach out to your Maryland representative and tell them now is NOT the time to cut funding for youth mental health!
