关于我们

In the U.S. alone, there are at least 125 cases of children born each year with missing fingers on one or both of their hands. This loss of function may be restored with a prosthetic device, however this solution can be costly. Traditional prosthetic devices can cost families thousands of dollars and are often outgrown by children. Meanwhile, 3D printed devices allow for easy scaling and assembly of new devices as children grow. We use 3D printing and other emerging technologies to build recreational prosthetic devices for children with limb differences. Volunteers, primarily students at NC State, use available resources and donations to skillfully design and produce prosthetic devices at no cost to children or their families. We are not a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization but we work closely with The Helping Hand Project which is. All funds for the club go towards the designing and building of prosthetics for children. The Helping Hand Project was originally started by Jeff Powell at UNC Chapel Hill and was eventually registered as a nonprofit before expanding to include student organizations at UNC Charlotte, Durham Tech, and NC State.

  • The Helping Hand Project at NC State is back for Fall 2024! We hope everyone had a great summer and are excited to have a great semester! We are thrilled to update this space with more exciting announcements and achievements. Last semester, we sent out two hands to families. This year, we have a total of 8 case teams working this year who are dedicated to assisting and making a difference within the upper-limb difference community. Our Public Relations, Outreach, and Support branches have also started working on their projects for the year. We are eager to see what this year has in store for us! Our new members have completed CAD training and have hit the group running in their case teams. Below are some designs by one of our members, Shivsai Kura.

Last semester we had two case teams finish devices and we were able to send them out over winter break. Both designs included flames with one being Charmander themed ??. We appreciate all the hard work the case teams put in last semester to get these designs sent out. Stay tuned to see what our teams do this semester!

  • On February 18th, The Helping Hand Project at NC State hosted the annual Helping Hand Project Conference. At conference, members from each chapter and the non-profit came together to discuss achievements made over the past year and future goals for the organization. Each chapter had the chance to showcase what they've been working on over the past year. We heard from Dr. Katherine Saul from the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department at NC State. She spoke about her work in her lab, the Movement Biomechanics Lab. We would like to thank Dr. Saul for speaking about her awesome work! We would also like to thank everyone who came to the conference. Lastly, we would like to thank our support team for their hard work over the past few months to put together an amazing event.
