Kudos to Industrial Arts Workshop (IAW) and the eight students who earned their D1.1 certifications! This is a tremendous achievement that demonstrates both the quality of IAW's welding program and the dedication of these students. ??
For the first time ever, eight continuing students at IAW have earned their D.1.1 certifications.?The D.1.1 certification is an entry-level certification in welding through the American Welding Society for those working in structural welding on steel. Students who earn this certification can enter into the workforce or their next educational opportunity a step ahead, as this certificate quantifies the skills they have mastered during their time at IAW. On Saturday, December 14th, IAW held the D.1.1 certification exam, administered by Certified Welding Instructor, George Kirk. Mr. Kirk then took the welded coupons for testing to examine the quality of internal welds, not just their external appearance. Eight students’ coupons passed the exam, earning them their D.1.1 certificates! IAW will offer the opportunity to test for D.1.1 certification twice a year. Our next group of welders will test this April- keep an eye out for news of their accomplishments! The D.1.1 certification counts for credit towards the Welding Technology program at CCAC, and a couple of our students have taken advantage of this opportunity to join the program this spring, while still in high school. According to CCAC Welding Instructor Cody Stroud, “The partnership [between CCAC and IAW] is awesome. [At IAW, students] get a really good introduction and base knowledge of welding and fabrication, maybe open their eyes to a welding career…. If they can acquire some qualifications, they can come into CCAC’s welding program with some credits awarded to them. When we get them, we get them job ready. We’re gonna cover a lot more theory, processes, and then through the program, hopefully get them out and into jobs.” Special thanks to George Kirk and Cody Stroud for helping our students reach this accomplishment.?We’re excited to offer this opportunity for our students to gain industry-recognized credentials, and we hope you’ll help us to celebrate these newly certified welders on their paths towards fulfilling careers!?
