Costco reported their fiscal Q2 results on March 6th, with net sales increasing 9.1% to $62.5B and comparable store sales reaching +8.6% - the highest of the calendar year. Overall earnings came in short of analyst expectations as margins were affected by higher supply chain costs from increasing inventory, contributing to the stock declining ~7%. We’re back again with our quarterly Costco insights! Weekly, our team walks clubs nationwide, gathering insights on emerging products and trends on behalf of our clients. Our latest analysis confirms Costco remains a trendsetter in retail, and we’re excited to share these three key observations from the full report we delivered to clients last week:? ? ?? Innovative wellness products are increasingly resonating with Costco. We're seeing trends like collagen-infused products expanding beyond beauty into other categories, ingredients appearing on labels in the food space (i.e., beef tallow), and better-for-you candy and desserts with added protein. ???Kirkland Signature continues to scale, with the private label brand now considered one of the largest CPG brands globally. Sales now exceed major brands like Nike and Coca-Cola, accounting for about one-third of Costco's total annual sales. ??Buying teams are prioritizing Roadshows as a crucial avenue for in-store distribution in 2025. A well-run Roadshow that meets sales thresholds can lead to permanent placement, making it an essential strategy for suppliers looking to expand their presence with Costco.
