Landmines were a constant threat when Ly Sreyneang was growing up in Cambodia, with her childhood home built on contaminated land. Her proudest moment after joining HALO was discovering and destroying her first antipersonnel mine in her own backyard! Nearly half of HALO Cambodia’s deminers are powerful women like Ly Sreyneang, who are making their own communities safer.

“Using the AWS cloud,?we’re able to analyze previously unimaginable volumes of data securely, which makes it possible to identify mined areas in hours rather than days,” says Matthew Abercrombie, Head of Research and Development at #TheHALOTrust.?? ? Thanks to Amazon Web Services (AWS), we’ve begun trialing using AI to analyze thousands of drone images, which we hope will transform tasks that would take days to do manually into just a matter of hours. We are grateful to be working with AWS to locate and destroy landmines faster using technology. ? Watch Matt’s video to learn more about the #AWSPioneers Project.
