80 years since the end of WWII, the people of #SolomonIslands not only continue to encounter unexploded ordnance, but they are discovering something more surprising – the human remains of American and Japanese soldiers. HALO is proud to be partnering with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency and the Japan Association for Recovery and Repatriation of War Casualties to help locate, recover, and identify the remains of fallen soldiers. Here you can see HALO staff briefing Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency during a visit to Bloody Ridge.

Meet Maheshwary Saththiyananthan – a courageous woman who turned fear into strength and found financial security for her family through her work with HALO #SriLanka. When she first joined HALO as a deminer, she was afraid of the mines she was tasked with clearing. But, over time, her confidence grew – as did her impact. Since starting at HALO in 2011 she has cleared over 200 landmines across 25 minefields, helping make her community safer! Read more about her inspiring story as a deminer: https://bit.ly/4iKW96e

For decades, #Colombia has been affected by internal armed conflict with various non-state actors, putting civilians’ lives at risk due to the presence of landmines. These deadly mines have caused devastating loss of life and injury, especially in rural communities. Thanks to support from our donors, we’re creating a future free from the threat of landmines in Colombia! ????

In #Syria, families are finally returning home and reuniting with their loved ones. One of our HALO team members just reunited with his father after 11 years apart. ?? Watch the heartfelt reunion between father and son. Syria is one of the most heavily mined countries in the world, and civilians are at grave risk of injury or death when finally returning home to land that hasn’t been checked for explosives. At HALO, we are determined to clear as much land in #Syria as possible, so families can safely reunite while staying safe from landmines and unexploded ordnance.
