We're excited to announce that the Guilford Fund for Education (GFFE) joined forces with TGF as a donor-advised fund. Since its inception, this all-volunteer organization has awarded $660,000 for 199 innovative educational grants outside the Guilford Public School's budget. This partnership is a win-win as GFFE drives its grantmaking and fundraising while leveraging TGF's administrative resources and operational expertise. Our Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is gathering for its first meeting on Sept. 23! It's a small-scale community foundation run by GHS students. The members drive decision-making, run monthly meetings, organize fundraising events, and present their grant recommendations to our BOD. Last year, they awarded $29,000 to six youth-centered community organizations and five GHS clubs and programs. YAG is looking for a few more members. It's a phenomenal educational opportunity for students who want hands-on experience while building critical leadership skills. Spread the word! Head to the Stony Creek library on Sunday (9/8) from 4 - 6 pm for a reception that honors the work of Rex Walden, who passed away in 2022. After retiring from teaching, Rex became a full-time artist whose work has been shown at galleries across the state and hangs in the collections of the Florence Griswold Museum, New Haven Paint and Clay, and the Smilow Cancer Center at Yale–New Haven Hospital. His wife, Wendy, established a field of interest fund with TGF to perpetuate her husband's artistic legacy and honor his incredible life. The Rex Prescott Walden Fund is focused on the arts, supporting artists, exhibitions, and education projects.
