This holiday season, Serina Saeed is grateful for her family, good food, and health. As a caregiver for her elderly mother, Serina turns to the Wakefield Food Pantry, a GBFB partner, when rising costs make it hard to put healthy meals on the table. Thanks to donors like YOU, Serina can access fresh produce, lean proteins, and special holiday care packages. Your support empowers 600 agencies like Wakefield to help neighbors in need. 关于我们
The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. GBFB powers a distribution network of over 600 partner agencies in 190 cities and towns across Eastern Massachusetts, feeding more than 600,000 people and distributing over 104 million pounds of food annually. GBFB acquires 76% of our food through financial contributions from generous donors to procure high-nutrient quality food. With our purchasing power, we can confidently guarantee that for every dollar donated, 92 cents goes to hunger-relief efforts. We also benefit from the generosity of over 27,500 volunteers annually who help to sort and pack food products to be distributed to our partner agencies across Eastern MA. GBFB works to acquire, store, organize, and distribute food through our 600 partner agencies that include local food pantries, community meal programs, homeless and residential shelters, youth programs, senior centers, and day-care centers embedded in communities throughout 190 cities and towns of Eastern Massachusetts. GBFB’s partner agency locator provides an easy way for people in need to find help nearby. GBFB also distributes food directly to those in need through dedicated programs that serve particularly vulnerable groups, such as seniors and children. Since 2009, GBFB has operated out of a state-of-the-art, 117,000 square foot food distribution facility, the Yawkey Distribution Center, located in the Newmarket section of Boston. The Greater Boston Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief organization.

Visit the memorial to Kip Tiernan on Dartmouth Street near Old South Church. As the founder of Rosie's Place and The Greater Boston Food Bank—the largest hunger-relief organization in New England—Kip’s work continues to inspire action against hunger and homelessness in our communities. Her philosophy lives on: "Charity is scraps from the table; justice is a seat at the table." Stop by and celebrate her profound impact on equity and dignity for all neighbors. Congratulations Julianne for joining the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources in this new role as Food Security Director! We applaud the Department for their deep commitment to advancing food security for the Commonwealth.
MDAR is thrilled to introduce and welcome our new Director of Food Security, Julianne Stelmaszyk, who will be heading up the brand new Division of Food Security at the Department! Juli has spent her career advancing local and sustainable food systems by launching local food procurement and food literacy initiatives at schools and colleges across New England and Italy, working on small family farms and most recently, leading state food policy for the the state of Rhode Island. The Division of Food Security will build cross-agency alignment of food security initiatives and will advance efforts that build long-term food system resilience and food security for the Commonwealth through oversight of programs such as the popular Food Security Infrastructure Grant (FSIG) program which MDAR now manages.

This holiday season, we’re inspired by Girl Scout Troop 64049 in Wellesley, MA. After learning that kids in their community face hunger, these fourth graders donated their cookie sale funds to GBFB. Their generosity reminds us that everyone can make a difference—whether you donate, advocate, volunteer, or sell cookies! After losing her job, Rose, a single mom of one, faced the stress of providing food for her family. Thanks to the support of generous donors like YOU, Rose was able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal last year—turkey, stuffing, cranberries, and all the fixings! This holiday season, we’re launching our Hunger Free Holidays campaign to help more families like Rose’s. Every dollar you give will be matched by our generous sponsor Stop & Shop, doubling your impact to provide more meals for neighbors across Eastern Massachusetts. Let’s ensure every family can gather around the table with a healthy, holiday meal. Learn more at GBFB.org/Holidays

This week, our team visited GBFB agency partner, Food For Free's packing and distribution center in Somerville for an open house to see their innovative food recovery and prepared meal programs in action. Thanks to partners like Food for Free, we're making sure less food is wasted and more nourishing meals get to those who need them most.

This Veterans Day, we honor the brave Americans who have served our country. At GBFB, we're proud to host three Mobile Markets for Veterans, all with a monthly distribution schedule that serves an average of 610 households, providing fresh produce and other pantry staples. Each Mobile Market for Veterans is supported by local Veteran Support Officers (VSO) and has a strong focus on building community with veterans in their neighborhoods and expanding resources for those facing food insecurity. To all veterans: thank you for your service. We're here to serve you, too. #VeteransDay #HungerFreeHolidays #ServingThoseWhoServed
