As the Olympic Torch is now passed to LA, I’ve been reflecting on an amazing trip to the Paris 2024 Olympics with my energetic 10 year old, and what we Angelenos can learn as we transform our city for LA 2028! ????♀? ?? ?? Here’s what we learned in Paris! What worked — the terrestrial experience: ??? Paris Metro transit is impressive. We never waited more than 4 minutes for a train, even late at night. Every car and station was clean, comfortable and well-maintained (even the older cars with the crank door openers that my kid loved). ??? Events were extremely well-organized with friendly multilingual staff at the Metro stations and onsite. ??? The ticketing app was super easy and worked well (once it was released, see below!). What could be improved for LA 2028 — the digital experience: ???? The app's last-minute release, mere weeks before the Games, left early ticket buyers anxious and frustrated. ???? The tickets app did not link to maps of the venues, which was especially difficult for events far outside Paris. ???? The tickets app also lacked integration with transit options so you had to figure out whether to use the Metro, RER, TGV or other options on your own. ???? The fragmented digital ecosystem, with multiple apps and websites for tickets and events, needs consolidation and earlier availability. ???? Navigating Paris Metro's confusing ticket options, especially for families with children, lacked clear guidance. The digital experience of the Olympics needs as much thought and care as what goes on on the ground. I’m happy to share more about creating experiences that eliminate friction and get people where they want to be. Just DM! ??
