Such a cool piece of history shared by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency! ??? The St. Louis Arsenal, up and running just decades after the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, was a powerhouse for westward expansion! ?? It armed the Army, militia, and even those epic expeditions to the Pacific. ?? Supplies heading west passed through the iconic Arsenal sallyport—pictured here during 1918 excavations. ???
Next up in our #GreetingsfromtheArsenal series, check out this post card from 1918. ???? The St. Louis Arsenal became operational less than 30 years after the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. It quickly played a vital role in westward expansion, supplying Army and territorial militia west of the Mississippi River, as well as equipping westward expeditions to the Pacific. As necessary militia supplies headed west, they would have left through the Arsenal sallyport, seen here during excavations in 1918. ?

???Check out Maxar Technologies' stunning high-res satellite images (Jan 17, 2025), which capture the vibrant Kumbh Mela along the Ganges & Yamuna Rivers in Prayagraj, India. The world’s largest religious gathering, with millions of pilgrims and colorful tents lining the riverbanks! ?????
We’ve gathered some pretty spectacular high-resolution satellite images of the Kumbh Mela along the banks of the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers in Prayagraj, India. The Kumbh Mela is a Hindu pilgrimage festival that takes place in India every 12 years. It's considered the world's largest religious gathering, with tens of millions of people taking part. After several cloudy days, we were able to collect some new images on January 17, 2025. This one clearly shows pilgrims, as well as tents and shelters set up along the Ganges River. #viewfromspace #satelliteimagery #KumbhMela

Moments like these remind us of the incredible value of satellite imagery. This image from Maxar Technologies highlights the Los Angeles area, revealing grey zones where fires have scorched the land while red areas showcase thriving vegetation.
Since the fires started in the Los Angeles area, we have collected more than 34,000 sq km of very high-resolution satellite imagery. We’ve been releasing imagery through our Open Data Program and customers like NOAA National Ocean Service, Microsoft and McKenzie Intelligence Services have been creating additional geospatial insights with that data. We’ve gathered some of those resources in this blog post: https://lnkd.in/gtZQvXxt? ? We will continue to release imagery through the Open Data Program as long as the fires persist.? ? ??: Maxar WorldView-3 high off-nadir, color infrared image of Altadena, California, from January 10, 2025. Red indicates healthy vegetation, and grey areas reveal the extent of the fire’s damage in the city and north into the mountains.? ? #geospatialintelligence #geospatialinsights #viewfromspace #satelliteimagery?
