  • The need for private capital to play a central role in financing sustainability goals has never been more urgent. As the GIIN’s Chief Investor Officer Sean Gilbert noted at the Annual Meeting for the Danish Active Owner Association, the gap between available public financing and the capital required to address global challenges is widening. Impact investing provides a critical path forward to mobilize capital at the necessary scale. #ImpactInvesting #Finance #PrivateCapital

I had the pleasure to have the opportunity to speak at the Annual Meeting for the Danish Active Owner Association last week at the invitation of their Impact Committee. I also had a chance to meet with our GIIN members as well as some of the asset owners in the market that are considering how best to engage with impact investing. Interest in Denmark seems to be growing and the Danish financial industry – particularly the pensions – have been important early leaders in sustainable finance. This all sits against the wider backdrop of public finance facing constraints in many parts of the world, making the role of private capital in addressing environmental and social needs all the more in the spotlight. The need for private capital to play a central role in financing sustainability goals has been present all of my working career - public finances alone have never been sufficient. However, the gap between financing needed and the public financing available feels as if it has been growing steadily, and the macro situation - particularly high debt levels in many countries and demographics driving changes in labor force and public spending needs - is making it acute in ways that seem more likely to accelerate the trend than to reverse it.

  • ?? Call for contributors: Help shape the new IRIS+ waste management theme. Waste management is a critical industry for driving positive environmental and social outcomes, from reducing pollution and protecting natural resources to improving public health and creating more sustainable economies. Impact investors play a vital role in advancing solutions that minimize landfill use, improve waste collection and mitigate pollution. To support investors in assessing the effectiveness of their waste management investments, the GIIN is developing a new waste management theme for IRIS+, in partnership with Circle Economy Consulting as the theme partner and supported by the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) at The Aspen Institute. IRIS+ is a practical tool that provides investors with standardized metrics, evidence-backed outcomes and guidance to measure and manage their impact with rigor and consistency. The GIIN is seeking input from impact investors, asset owners, asset managers, service providers, social enterprises, non-profits and independent experts?to?test the measurability, usability and scalability of the IRIS+ metrics and related content.?If you are interested in supporting this effort, please reach out or sign up here: https://lnkd.in/ebGWFXmQ #ImpactInvesting #Waste #WasteManagement #Finance #Sustainability #EnvironmentalSustainability
