  • ?? Uncertainty is curiosity’s rocket fuel. We often treat not knowing as something to fix. But what if it’s something to explore? In this week’s episode of The Future of Teamwork, author and social critic Maggie Jackson invites us to rethink our relationship with uncertainty—and shows how making space for it can strengthen how we think, lead, and collaborate. This carousel explores one of her key ideas—that uncertainty fuels curiosity. ?? Watch the full conversation on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eRZyMfqt. ?? • Today’s technology doesn’t make space to think. This week on The Future of Teamwork, Maggie Jackson challenges us to consider how our tools shape the way we focus, reflect, and relate. She’s not anti-tech. She’s asking: → Are we building space for deep, sustained attention? → Or are we relying on tools that leave little room for reflection? If we want more thoughtful teams, we need to be more thoughtful about the environments we create—including the digital ones. ?? Listen to the episode at the links in the comments! ?? • “Loveseat of accord.” That’s what Maggie Jackson calls the comfortable place teams settle into when everyone agrees—and it couldn’t be more dangerous. In our latest Future of Teamwork conversation, Maggie shares with Dane ?? Groeneveld that: → Teams in agreement are often less creative and less accurate → They start to see each other as more similar than they really are → And worst of all, they believe they’re performing well—even as results decline Why? Because agreement feels fluent. Easy. Familiar. But the disagreeing brain? It’s energetic. It’s doing the real work of thinking. From the Supreme Court to the boardroom, Maggie reminds us: progress depends on discomfort, not harmony. ?? Listen to the episode at the links in the comments! ?? • We’re trained to have answers. But what happens when we lean into questions? In this week’s episode of The Future of Teamwork, award-winning author and social critic Maggie Jackson explores the surprising upside of uncertainty. She makes a compelling case: ? Teams that allow room for doubt solve problems more creatively ? Leaders who show ambivalence draw out overlooked perspectives ? And embracing “I don’t know” can sharpen decision-making under pressure Dane ?? Groeneveld and Maggie talk about Mars missions, attention, team dynamics—and how the most powerful shift a team can make is choosing curiosity over certainty. ?? • A team and a sandwich… Kind of makes sense amongst all of the tension and noise that our media, leaders and politicians are throwing around right now.

I know many will say that the media is making a mess of the political tension. So whether there is truth to the Truth Social post in the news today about this deal with a law firm is not important to me. What is important is setting the record straight on language chosen! It added that [legal firm named after a bunch of blokes] would commit to "merit-based" hiring and promotion, and "will not adopt, use, or pursue any DEI policies". ???????????? TO BE CLEAR Merit based hiring and DEI policies are NOT mutually exclusive. Here is a good example as an Australian that likes good bread… If I always go to the local grocery store, my merit-based selection process for bread is limited. I likely end up with Killer Dave’s or some take and bake option - both are underwhelming but they are the best of what I see every day. However, if I take the time to explore the wider community I may find a great new source of bread. Perhaps it is home baked by a friends aunt. Perhaps it is driven in every Sunday to a farmers market. Maybe they use Italian flour, or they put olives in it. By trying these new sources and types of bread, I may just find a game changer. I may even find new cheese, spread, or fillings to go with it and make a sandwich (aka Team). DEI to me, helps us explore what talent exists around us and how to combine that talent in great teams that achieve extraordinary results. Go do more of that. PLEASE. It will benefit your team, customers, and community. More innovation, more connection, more mattering. P.S. If you were buying bread you did not enjoy from a place you thought would give you “social credits”, or you were taking that bread to make breadcrumbs for your turkey stuffing once a year… You were doing it wrong in the first place! Focus on the sandwich ??

  • You don’t need the “right” degree to do meaningful work. In this episode of The Future of Teamwork, Dane ?? Groeneveld and Pete Schramm talk about how career paths rarely follow a straight line. Pete earned two degrees in mechanical engineering—but never worked a day in the field. Instead, he moved into entirely different territory, building a platform that helps people map their careers, connect with mentors, and grow with intention. And yet, it tracks. Engineering teaches a way of thinking—structured problem solving, persistence, critical analysis—that can carry into all kinds of work, even when the job title looks nothing like the degree. As Dane reflects in the episode, education is often less about direct application and more about the muscle it builds along the way. ?? If you’re questioning whether your background limits your future—it doesn’t. What matters is how you apply what you’ve learned! ?? • Struggle with networking? You’re not alone. Too many people show up to events and stick to the sidelines, unsure how to start a conversation. But what if the best way to connect is as simple as standing in line at the bar? In this clip from The Future of Teamwork, Pete Schramm shares a straightforward approach: ? Grab a drink (even if it’s just water). ? Turn to the person next to you and ask, “What brought you here?” ? Lead with curiosity, not an agenda. Genuine connections start when you stop worrying about what to say—and focus on listening instead. ?? • ??? Stronger Connections = Stronger Retention When employees feel connected to their workplace, they stay—not just because of the job, but because of the people around them. In this clip from The Future of Teamwork, Pete Schramm explains how career relationships function like a spider web—the more connection points, the stronger the structure. And when that web is strong, it takes a lot more than a salary bump to pull someone away. ?? Research backs this up: employees with strong workplace relationships are far less likely to leave, even when offered higher pay elsewhere. So the question for leaders isn’t just “How do we keep people?” It’s “How do we help them build a stronger web?” ??
