Thanks Jules Polonetsky and Future of Privacy Forum for a great conversation today. ICYMI- here's the replay and a few summary talking points; 1. The term 'data broker' can mean many things to consumers such as consumer reporting agency, people search tool, or marketing data reseller. These are very disparate use cases that deserve different policy solutions. 2. California's 'Delete Act' current regulations incorporate all 'indirect' data sales (which the CPPA just clarified in proposed regs to include any 'unintentional' activities like accepting 3rd party ad network cookies). 3. The 3rd party ad network industry has maintained an effective self-regulatory opt-out since 2012 through the Digital Advertising Alliance at https://lnkd.in/gP-A7e3H The FTC should adopt this solution and endorse federal preemption of state laws attempting to build the same functionality. California’s SB 362 ‘Delete Act’ sweeps widely, covering a wide range of third parties but also companies that do business directly with consumers. Join us for a LinkedIn Live with FPF CEO Jules Polonetsky and Principal for In-House Privacy Ben Isaacson as they examine how broadly the label data broker is being used and the legal consequences. We’ll go live at 12 pm ET!
