A recent article sheds light on alarming trends in deforestation across Indonesia, with a particular focus on?Kalimantan (Indonesia Borneo)—a region that has seen a 4% increase in deforestation since 2023, now accounting for nearly?half of the country’s total deforestation?in 2024. This surge in land clearing has often been overlooked due to the perception that deforestation has mostly shifted to eastern Indonesia. But the truth is, regions like Kalimantan are facing a critical challenge, and action is more urgent than ever.??? The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) plays a pivotal role in shaping a trustworthy and impactful carbon market. Specifically, their Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) set a?global standard?for high-quality carbon credits. The ICVCM’s framework helps distinguish projects that meet rigorous environmental standards, allowing businesses to invest in nature-based solutions with increased confidence. This creates a growing market for projects like ours, which are rooted in science and long-term impact. An increase in carbon financing not only produces critical mitigation, but also funding for rural landowners and indigenous communities – as well as protected biodiversity. ?? The ICVCM’s work is central to reinforcing trust, ensuring quality, and driving demand for credible carbon credits – which in turn gives them the invaluable ability to accelerate efforts that restore ecosystems and combat climate change. ??
