Everyone benefits from Paid Family Leave! ?? The Family Care Act would allow: ? New parents to bond with their child after birth or adoption. ? Family members to care for elderly loved ones. ? Parents to be there for a child recovering from a serious illness. ? Workers to take time to heal from a serious illness or injury. ? Domestic violence survivors to access safe leave to seek protection and support. ? Military families to handle urgent matters related to deployment. Paid Family Leave ensures that no one has to choose between their job and their loved ones. It strengthens families, supports workers, and builds healthier and stronger communities. It is also important to note that studies have shown that employees with access to state paid leave are more productive, increasing revenues for businesses. ???? ?? Why does Pennsylvania need Paid Family Leave? ?? The data is clear: it is a win-win for both employees and businesses. ?? One year into implementation, New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island saw no adverse effects on workplace attendance, teamwork, or productivity. Similarly, in New Jersey and California, most employers reported minimal negative impacts—small businesses even less so! Almost 2 out of 10 women served through our Core Grants program are Black women and girls. ??????? Our funding supports programs that provide women’s health, mom’s groups, immigrant services, housing and financial empowerment, and basic needs and services. The actions of the Federal administration over the past week do not reflect the values and beliefs of The Fund for Women and Girls. We are committed to ensuring a more equitable future for everyone facing gender discrimination; cis women and girls, trans individuals, and nonbinary/gender non-conforming adults, youth, and children. While many in power are signaling a systemic rejection of diversity and setting a dangerous precedent that threatens to normalize exclusion, inequity, and hate at the highest levels of governance, we will continue to work towards gender equity for all. ?? POSITION STATEMENT ?? The Fund for Women and Girls board proudly announces we stand in support of a Pennsylvania Paid Family Leave Program. In our role as a partner and leader striving to ensure that women and girls have the resources and opportunities to thrive, we recognize that women provide the majority of family care and often face financial hardships in doing so. A Paid Family Leave Program will: ? Bring us one step closer to economic equity and ensuring that caregivers and birthing people have the resources and opportunities to thrive.? ? Apply to employees or family members of employees with serious medical conditions. ? Support survivors of certain types of violence. Women and girls affected by gender-based violence will be supported by this potential program.
