FPC works to preserve, protect and restore Forest Park, a 5200+ acre natural area within the city limits of Portland.

关于我们

Portland’s Forest Park is one of the largest urban forests in the United States, with more than 100 species of native trees, 112 species of birds and more than 60 species of mammals beneath its 5,200-acre canopy. Thousands of human visitors walk, hike, bike and run along Forest Park’s 80 miles of trails, all entirely within the Portland city limits. And yet it’s so much more than just a city park: Forest Park is where the Oregon Coast Range forest reaches east to welcome the people of Portland and tourists into its uniquely beautiful world: a vast forest ecosystem that stretches from California to Alaska. The Forest Park Conservancy is a community supported non-profit that protects and restores Forest Park. We engage more than 1,000 volunteers who give tens of thousands of hours and significant financial resources to Forest Park because, quite simply, Forest Park gives so much to us. Currently, we are leading a 20-year strategy to restore and protect the Greater Forest Park Ecosystem which is a total of 15,000 acres, including Forest Park. This strategy, called the Greater Forest Park Conservation Initiative, will play a significant role ensuring the Portland region is a healthy place to live, work, and play. We invite you to join us in our continuing work in the park, by becoming a volunteer and making a gift. You can become a part of our efforts to ensure its health for future generations. • Earlier this month the City Hearings Office granted PGE an approval for Phase 3 of the Harborton Reliability Project. This decision would allow for the removal of nearly 400 living trees in Forest Park, permanently fill two wetlands, impact multiple streams, and disrupt sensitive wildlife habitat. Our organization holds that this proposal is in direct opposition to the goals and guidelines of the Forest Park Natural Resources Management Plan and we agree with the City of Portland Staff Report that recommends to deny the approval. In order to protect Forest Park, we have filed an appeal with the city in order to argue our case to Portland City Council. We will be providing more information on how concerned community members can support our appeal as this process unfolds. For now, you can donate to help support our efforts or read our full statement using the links below. Full Announcement: https://lnkd.in/gdv37sAg Donate to Support our Work: https://lnkd.in/gUAxikRv

Want to share your love of Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park? Become a forest ambassador! Forest ambassadors are stationed at trailheads in the park, and occasionally at events, to welcome, guide, and educate park users. This helps to create a more welcoming atmosphere in Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park, as well as an opportunity for park users to learn more about the work that goes into maintaining these parks. If you want to become an ambassador, we have two upcoming trainings on Saturday, March 29th and Tuesday, April 1st. Click the link below to find these trainings on our Events Calendar. If becoming an ambassador sounds like your cup of tea, we hope you'll join the team! https://lnkd.in/gUAxikRv

  • We are pleased to announce that Scott Fogarty will be joining the FPC team as our new executive director! Scott comes to FPC with an extensive history in the conservation space. Previously, Scott served as the Executive Director for the Wild Rivers Land Trust, Northern Alaska Environmental Center, Friends of Trees, and the Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center. He has also worked for the US EPA’s Office of Water. From Scott: “I am excited to help people fall in love with, and recreate in, these incredible natural spaces inside Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park. Parks like these represent part of what makes our region livable, healthy, and fun. I look forward to working with our partners and community members to increase access, address potential fire hazards, increase connectivity with other regional greenspaces, and provide educational and volunteer opportunities for all to enjoy. I also look forward to exploring FPC’s Ancient Forest Preserve and hiking the full length of the Wildwood Trail with my kiddos!”

  • The work we do in Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park would not be possible without your help. The support of volunteers and donors allows us to care for these parks alongside you, the people who love them. It's been a big year, and we are ready to face 2025 with you. And, thanks to your support, we will be starting things off on the right foot. That's right, we have reached our $50,000 Willamette Week's Give!Guide fundraising goal! At time of writing, 658 donors have raised $56,863.15 to fund our work in Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park. That's incredible, and we could not be more thankful for your support. There's still time to contribute to Give!Guide before the campaign ends tonight at midnight. We will be doing one last Tennis Shoe Tuesday, and any donation on our Give!Guide profile will automatically enter you to win a pair of HOKA shoes. Additionally, many non-profits still need help to reach their fundraising goals, so take a look at the list of non-profits on giveguide.org if you haven't already. There are a lot of other great organizations in Give!Guide that need your support!

  • We've cracked the 50% mark of our Give!Guide fundraising goal! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our Willamette Week's Give!Guide campaign so far. We've got another $20,00 to fundraise but we can do it with your support! Your donations make our work possible and will help us start 2025 on the right foot. Today, any donation of $10+ to a Give!Guide non-profit enters you to win one of six New Seasons gift cards (which you can use after the New Seasons Labor Union agrees to a new contract )! The final week of the campaign is fast approaching, and we've teamed up with our friends Cotopaxi, Rumpl, Arc'teryx Equipment, and HOKA to provide some amazing prizes! Stay tuned for more details!
