We were delighted to present at the Maryland Government Finance Officer Association Fall 2024 Conference! Charmayne Anderson, TFG Partner and Wyatt Fritz, TFG Grants Analyst, presented strategies to maximize federal funding opportunities.

As natural hazard risks continue to escalate, many communities, businesses, and farms find themselves needing to build their resilience against these threats -- often at a pace faster than budgets will permit. Although federal funding can bridge those budgetary gaps, the organizations that need funding the most often fail to get it. We spoke to three experts about the challenges and best practices for securing government funding for climate resilience projects. Here's what they had to say...

The #SacramentoValley floodplains are moving #Forward! This week, state and federal agencies signed an agreement to enhance collaboration and investment into the region's floodplains. This Memorandum of Understanding will enhance critical protection of?fish and wildlife habitat, buffer impacts of flooding, and sustain farms and communities.? ? The #FloodplainForwardCoalition, a trailblazing coalition of 27-members representing landowners, irrigation districts, higher education, and wildlife conservation groups in California, is supporting state and federal agencies in this effort.?

More often than not, smaller communities with limited resources tend to be less resilient against natural hazard risks like floods, wildfires, hurricanes, etc. Outside funding could help. But, these same communities often lack the money and resources to apply for and follow through on government grant requirements. The solution? Christopher Wagoner, MPA of TFG recommends sharing the burden with other communities with similar goals. It's closely aligned with an approach we at AEM call #collaborativeresilience. This incredible project could transform a superfund site into a #greenjob and #renewableenergy-creating hub in northern New Mexico.
