Chapter History On December 6, 1969, twenty-six visionary women embarked upon a new and challenging path in their Delta lives – they established The Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Throughout the past 40+ years, The Federal City Alumnae Chapter sorors have unselfishly given of their time, energy and talents to the citizens of the District of Columbia. Some programs and projects from the early days include: “Operation I.D.” for the Barry Farms community, Senior citizens activities at Garfield Terrace, Edgewood Terrace, Judiciary House Senior Citizen center, and D.C. Village, A Family Life conference, parenting classes for teenage mothers, Health Fairs, Voter Registration programs, and tutorial and Literacy programs. In the later years, the Adopt-a-Family, Adopt-a-School and Del-Teen programs were initiated. The Federal City Alumnae Chapter has continued its commitment to the arts, education and social action through involvement with African-American art galleries, student cultural arts workshops, the Emerging Artist program, an annual College and Career Fair, school trips to visit member of Congress, town meetings and voter registration information.
