Justice can't exist without joy! Check out this video from our Director of Organizational Efficiency and Wellbeing, Antricia Gordon, about the revolutionary power of rest. This year, we prioritized wellness in all facets of our work by ensuring our TEAm had the financial, emotional, and communal support needed to thrive while advancing our mission. Our office will be closed for the remainder of the year to allow space for rest and reflection in preparation for the year ahead.

True to our reputation for creating intentional and impactful civic engagement opportunities, our #ShutUpAndVote Tour was a bold step forward. Together with DJ Crisis, we showed up where others often don’t—nightclubs, #HBCU tailgates, and community centers across Middle and West Tennessee—to empower those who’ve been excluded from the political process to feel seen, heard, and included in politics. Check out this video of our Director of Growth and Engagement, Jess Williams, and DJ Crisis as they describe how The Equity Alliance's signature combination of grassroots organizing with cultural innovation is central to the work of creating a more equitable and just Tennessee. #TheEquityAlliance #CommunityOrganizing #SocialChange #Innovation

The Equity Alliance's CEO, Tequila M Johnson, has just been featured in StyleBlueprint. In the recent article, Tequila talks about the work of The Equity Alliance, what drives her to create innovative and transformative events, and how these events support systemic change: “One of my favorite parts of this work is how we meet people where they are, whether it’s through the ‘Shut Up and Vote’ tour or our rights restoration efforts with returning citizens. It’s about making civic engagement accessible, relevant, and culturally resonant,” Tequila Johnson. Please join us in celebrating Tequila's bold vision and unwavering dedication to empowering our communities! This year, The Equity Alliance led Tennessee’s largest voter mobilization program in a critical election year, mobilizing 2.2 million voter contacts and hosting 490+ voter registration events statewide. With over 300 boots on the ground and 1,500+ dedicated volunteers, we made sure Black Tennesseans’ voices were heard loud and clear. Our work went beyond the ballot box. We: ? Supported 59+ Black-owned businesses by patronizing them. ? Paid $170k+ toward fines for returning citizens. ? Delivered $300k+ in direct services to uplift our communities. All of this was powered by the relentless commitment of our TEAm, volunteers, and supporters like you. From national media recognition to community awards, empowering the next generation, and creating sustainable change, our work shined—and we’re just getting started. Together, we’re creating a Tennessee where we all have access to the power, knowledge, and resources needed to thrive. #TheEquityAlliance #CommunityEngagement #OrganizingImpact

In 2024, we deepened our impact in Nashville and Memphis while expanding our efforts to Murfreesboro and Clarksville. From restoring voting rights to hosting food drives, organizing community cleanups, and connecting neighbors with essential resources, our TEAm worked tirelessly to build power across the state. This year, we hosted over 400 events to engage and empower community members to actively participate in the political process. A special shoutout to Rachael Goodwin Spriggs, our Director of Power Building, and our Regional Organizing Managers for leading the charge and making this year’s impact possible. ???? Together, we’re empowering communities and driving change every day. #TheEquityAlliance #YearInReview #CommunityEmpowerment

This October, we gathered with community leaders for The Equity Alliance's Black Leaders Roundtable—an event dedicated to creating intentional, impactful conversations between community leaders and candidates for federal and state offices. Held in our North Nashville office, this roundtable replaced our usual Cocktails and Candidates to offer a more personal, direct space to engage around this General Election. The evening provided a unique platform for our community’s leaders to connect with candidates and dig deep into the campaign priorities and goals that matter most to us. As always, at The Equity Alliance, we remain committed to our mission: unapologetically building Black political and economic power by educating, empowering, and mobilizing our community to take action. With informed and empowered voices, we’re working toward a future where our government represents and advocates for all. With only five days until the General Election and another busy legislative season ahead of us, we have no choice but to keep the momentum going! Together, we’re building the change we wish to see. #TheEquityAlliance #CommunityEngagement #PoliticalPower
