  • The commitment of our participating companies to improving their environmental performance has never been stronger! Last week, over 80 TEP operators met to share best practices to reduce emissions from flare operations. Inefficient combustion and unlit flares may be drivers of high emission events observed by third parties. And TEP operators are applying best practices to address these drivers, mitigate the need to flare and monitor for flare malfunctions. Solutions presented at the workshop included facility design strategies, implementing digital operating systems to adjust production when an upset condition is detected, and daily inspections of flares to ensure flare pilots are lit and thermocouples are operating properly. Thank you to the many TEP operators who volunteered to share their learnings with others during this workshop. #workingtogether

  • Thank you to our partners at Colorado State University's Methane Emissions Technology Evaluation Center (METEC) for hosting the first TEP event of 2025! Over the course of the two-day workshop hosted in Fort Collins, operators met with METEC research scientists to discuss recent and planned methane monitoring experiments and offer input on METEC’s revised testing protocols to better evaluate monitoring technologies. Braving the cold, operators also toured METEC’s research testing site where vendors and operators trial methane detection technologies for efficacy and provided feedback on METEC’s planned expansion to better replicate operational and field conditions within their testing environment. The collaboration between TEP and CSU researchers has been foundational to our program since its start. “METEC makes us [as operators] better consumers,” one TEP operator said during roundtables, highlighting the importance of METEC’s role and the technical expertise it provides to TEP members who are evaluating monitoring technologies.

  • Last week, more than 170 operators, key industry stakeholders, and partners gathered in Houston, Texas for our 7th annual meeting and conference. Attendees convened to share strategies on methane emissions reduction, such as incorporating different monitoring technologies or implementing LDAR programs to identify and prevent emissions. Panelists shared insights on the evolution of methane measurement studies to further understanding of methane emission sources and advance reconciliation between top-down and bottom-up methane emission estimates. In conjunction with the conference, twenty industry partners joined us for the TEP Technology Forum, providing attendees with the opportunity to engage with a range of companies who are collaborating with industry to implement innovative technologies to reduce emissions. Coming up in 2025, TEP has several source-specific workshops planned targeting flares and compressors and regional workshops in the Appalachian and Permian Basin areas.
