Empowering the Next Generation of Energy Leaders! Students at Thurston Middle School are taking action for a sustainable future! Through TEC’s Junior Energy Manager Certification, an offering of our Energy is Everything education program, these young changemakers advocated for solar panel funding and long-term sustainability at the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board meeting earlier this month. In their statements, they presented the school district’s Energy Master Plan to receive a Certificate of Participation approval. This is a powerful example of how education fuels real-world impact. By equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to drive change, TEC’s Energy is Everything program is shaping the next generation of energy leaders. We’re so proud to see them putting their skills into action! Huge shout out to our Sustainability Corps Fellow, Anna Straszewski (pictured), for facilitating this group of changemakers and supporting their board meeting presentation. This Grist article on wildfires made us reflect on the future of California’s climate and energy future. We understand that more than ever, community and climate resilience will need to be at the forefront of future conversations to mitigate the impacts of future natural disasters. A truly resilient future means reducing our dependency on fossil fuels, strengthening our energy grid, and tapping into decarbonization in addition to often-overlooked solutions like energy efficiency.
