Here is our origin story!
STORYTIME ???? In 2017/18, I got into Y Combinator’s Startup School (NOT the main YC program) for my startup “The Empowered Women” and spent a few days in California, attending in-person lectures and conferences. The startup was about ‘measured’ mentorship for #women because I had felt a big gap. My ex-boss & incredible serial CTO Keith Jaeger said he’ll help. I bought the domain name & all. I was SO excited!!! And then, NOTHING happened. I was too scared to quit my full-time job and figure out the unknown. I told myself I’m NOT the entrepreneurial type and moved on. I didn’t let go of the name though, esp because it reminds me of my mom & sisters. Over the past few years, I’ve been searching for a home for The Empowered Women. I tag it when I see, host or attend things that are intentional and action-oriented. I’ve been wishing for a way to connect what we do at The Great Nepali Diaspora to this larger conversation around #women. I’ve been hoping to be & create a catalyst for Nepali women worldwide through a bridge ?? Happy to FINALLY announce that we have been laying the foundation for a while now and will soon unveil this bridge that connects women in #Nepal to the world. You’ll hear more about my exceptional Founding Organizing Team Leads: Kisu Rawal Trishagni Sakya Saloni Sethia and Sophiya R. I am grateful to these strong leaders I’m lucky to know ?? We’ve hosted a couple of amazing events in Kathmandu: a #networking meetup (with 93 attendees!) and a fireside chat with human rights expert Melissa Upreti……. and we have MASSIVE plans for this summer - a workshop around personal branding (on & off LinkedIn) and a curated concert ?? For now, please follow The Empowered Women & stay tuned for updates! Thank you Pratik Maharjan for this new & improved logo. I wanted a silhouette of a woman that could be wearing a dress or a sari ?? It sort of even looks like a superwoman cape, so it’s PERFECT ??
