You might’ve heard the term “food noise” floating around lately. While it isn’t a clinical diagnosis, it’s often used to describe persistent thoughts about food that can feel intrusive or exhausting. In a recent VegNews article, The Emily Program's Dr. Jillian Lampert offers a grounded perspective on the term. She talks about how food noise can feel overwhelming, especially for those with a history of restriction, dieting, or body image distress. Jillian also emphasizes the importance of self-compassion. For many, understanding where food noise comes from—and approaching it with curiosity and care—can be an important part of healing. ?? Restrictive eating is often seen as a path to control, but it can have the opposite effect. In our next Learn with Emily webinar, Stacy Schilter Pisano, LMFT, CEDS-S, Site Director at The Emily Program’s South Sound location, explores the paradox of weight loss pursuits—how restrictive eating (and thinking) can fuel binge eating behaviors, contribute to weight cycling, and worsen both physical and mental health. This free event is for mental health professionals, dietitians, social workers, healthcare providers, and anyone looking to better understand the binge/restrict cycle—and how to break free from it. ?? Food insecurity changes how people eat, think about food, and experience hunger. When food is unpredictable, survival instincts can take over—skipping meals to stretch food, eating quickly when it’s available, or struggling to trust hunger cues after scarcity. These survival responses can increase the risk of disordered eating and make recovery more challenging. Even after food access improves, these patterns don’t always go away on their own. Without screening for food insecurity, providers may miss a key factor influencing a client’s relationship with food—and their recovery. Our latest blog explores how food insecurity intersects with disordered eating, and why treatment must address both for lasting healing. ?? Spring is a time of fresh starts—but for those in eating disorder recovery, it can also bring new challenges. Warmer weather, shifting routines, and the relentless buzz of diet culture can make it harder to stay grounded in recovery. If certain habits, thoughts, or external pressures are holding you back from food and body freedom, this season might be a good time to reassess. Just like spring cleaning, letting go of what no longer serves you—unrealistic body goals, harmful social media accounts, or rigid food rules—can create space for self-compassion and healing. And if extra support would help, we’re here for you. ?? ?? Call 888-364-5977 or visit https://emilyprogram.com/ #EatingDisorderRecovery #MentalHealthMatters #DitchDietCulture
