  • Nearly eighteen years ago, when we purchased The Electric Brew, I had no idea how much it would become a part of my life. Over the years, we've gotten to know so many great people and have had numerous wonderful experiences. Eight years ago, our oldest son Jeremy and his wife Shivy joined us and have been working full-time with us since then. Over the years, Jeremy has become more involved in managing the business, while Shivy has excelled as a baker and now oversees our baking production. They have both honed their skills, and during the times when Dana and I have been away, they’ve taken over operations with ease and excellence. I would describe our partnership as one where they’ve complemented our skills, vision, and passion for the business. It’s been a pleasure working together in this way. However, we have come to the conclusion that now is a good time for me to retire, and I will be doing so in February. Jeremy and Shivy are purchasing the business and will take over operations when I retire. Several years ago, Jeremy graduated with an undergraduate degree in business and went on to earn an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. I’ve long said that I don’t really believe in “retiring.” I’ve always enjoyed working and taking on big challenges (well, with the exception of my 13-year-old self) and still enjoy a good day’s work, but it is time for me to hand over the operational reins of this wonderful business to them. We began this transition a number of years ago and have become more intentional over the past year. At this point, most of the transition has been completed, and I feel great about the future of The Brew. This transition is actually harder for me than I thought it would be. I’ve loved owning, operating, and “living” The Brew for these past eighteen years and hope to continue being involved, although in a very different role, for many years to come. I sincerely believe this change will greatly benefit The Brew’s future; otherwise, I would not have been so willing to take this step. While it's more difficult than I expected, I’m fully convinced it’s the right decision and am deeply committed to making it work. I want to thank all of you who have made this the greatest employment journey anyone could ever hope for, much less deserve. I’m deeply humbled and grateful for the wonderful relationships I’ve been able to develop within our Goshen community, the larger coffee culture, and with coffee producers around the world. It has truly been an epic journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. We are planning a retirement party for January 19th, and the event will be open to the public.
