Today we honor Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in history marking the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas were informed of their freedom, a full two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. This day is not only a celebration of freedom but also a reflection on the enduring strength and resilience of the African American community. It's a call to all of us to work towards a more fair and equitable society. We're observing Juneteenth today and our office will be closed.
