This year, the Legislature passed several innovative bills aimed at addressing critical gaps in child care and early intervention services. But keeping up that momentum now hinges on Gov. Kathy Hochul: she has the opportunity to prioritize the well-being of New York’s youngest residents and create a more equitable early childhood system by signing these bills. These bills will support families who face significant challenges in accessing child care and address long-overdue needs in services for children with developmental delays. Families deserve to receive the support they need to thrive – and when they thrive, New York’s workforce thrives, too. All children can succeed in school when provided with high-quality, culturally relevant instruction and support that is equity-driven, data-centered, and student-focused. To improve outcomes across New York State, particularly for students of color and students from low-income backgrounds, we urge these investments in the Governor’s FY 2025-26 Executive Budget: ??Create a permanent state child care fund to increase child care workers’ compensation ??Increase the Empire State Child Tax Credit to reduce child poverty by 23% ??Implement a rate increase for Early Intervention providers ??Expand investments in ParentChild+ and the Nurse Family Partnership Program ??Provide grants for districts to ensure all K-8 educators have the opportunity to receive a microcredential in the #scienceofreading and for high-needs districts to purchase K-5 curricula and resources ??Provide schools and community-based organizations with support to offer high-impact tutoring ??Increase funding for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and Reach Out and Read ??Fully funding the Foundation Aid formula and updating the formula with an equity-centered approach ??Support schools with Universal FAFSA implementation ??Further invest in college in high school programs See the breakdown here: https://loom.ly/Q5xiR5I

We're hiring a Policy Analyst! The Policy Analyst researches, analyzes, and writes policy to improve education equity, access, and outcomes. This role monitors state and local education policy, engages with policymakers and partners, and supports bill proposals aligned with EdTrust-New York's priorities. The position also helps develop reports and materials, provides logistical support for the EdTrust-New York team, and fosters relationships with coalition and external partners to advance educational equity in New York.
