The Economic Club of Chicago (ECC) fosters meaningful connections among Chicago leaders to encourage dialogue on important economic and social issues and to cultivate the next generation of civic leadership. Founded in 1927, the ECC has evolved from its roots as a forum for Chicago’s business community into a premier institution that provides intellectually curious members of the business world a platform to discuss economic, business and social issues. The ECC does not take an activist role. Rather, by providing a forum for discussion and debate, the ECC advances the development of civic-minded executives who understand and embrace their role in building a better society.

I wasn’t the only one interested in what my fellow University of Arkansas alumnus and current Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon had to say at yesterday’s The Economic Club of Chicago black tie event. He eloquently answered the great questions by TIME Women of the Year listee Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. Seeing old friends and making new friends 2. Getting to understand how people are at the core of Doug's leadership, from the diverse thousands of Associates that power Walmart to the culture, values, and behaviors that anchor everything at the company even as times change 3. Hearing about Corporate and Board responsibility for the people in our communities (including wage increases and disaster relief)

Fun night out at The Economic Club of Chicago dinner ~ Loved hearing Walmart CEO Doug McMillon's stories and how he puts the Associates first! People are #1 - He started his career at Walmart as an hourly associate, putting together orders and unloading trailers in a warehouse. - Walmart strives to help people save money and live better. EDLP and getting the price of eggs down! He hopes to do this thru technology and services (like Walmart+ InHome: direct to fridge deliveries). Some customers love having the same person delivering their orders for the relationship and connection. - Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America moderated and asked the tough questions which Doug answered candidly for the audience. Walmart gives back to the community thru the Walmart Foundation and other in-kind to support programs.
