To Inspire and Build a Healthy Sustainable and Just Future for the East Bay California and Beyond
关于我们
Founded in 1969, the Ecology Center is a nonprofit organization, located in Berkeley, California, that focuses on the environmental impacts of urban residents. We address issues through educating, creating community momentum, building infrastructure to make change easy, and spreading positive solutions through convening and advocacy. Our core issues include waste and consumerism, food and farming, climate change prevention and resiliency, and sustainable living. Our mission is to inspire and build a sustainable, healthy, and just future for the East Bay, California, and beyond. We transform the ideals of sustainability into everyday practice. We deliver information you can act on, infrastructure you can count on, and leadership for lasting change. The Ecology Center envisions a world where human activity nurtures the ecosystems that we all depend on — a world of sustainable cities; empowered, resilient communities; zero waste and zero toxics; equal access to healthy food; sustainable resource use; and a safe and stable climate.

What a dream team! The OGs of curbside recycling keep recycling real!
At the end of February, AMBR gathered in Colorado for our annual strategy session to discuss the blueprint for furthering our vision of recycling to keep natural resources in the ground. Like many of us working towards restoring a balanced relationship with the natural world, the abrupt shift in federal policies caused by the Trump administration has created much uncertainty within our work.?But as some of the original recycling operators in the United States, AMBR’s founding organizations have, for decades, unwaveringly worked towards a shared vision of recycling to support zero waste communities, never bending in response to turbulent political conditions. In 2025, we will keep working towards the elimination of waste, toxics, and pollution, and building a society where all products are reused, refilled, recycled, or composted. We will continue to hold the line, remaining steadfast in our efforts to move forward zero waste policies where we can at the local and state level. We're glad to have you all alongside us on the journey! With Eureka Recycling, Eco-Cycle, Ecology Center, Recycle Ann Arbor, and the Ecology Center (Berkeley).

Gavin Newsom Stand Firm, Release the Regs! In 2024,?Rachel Machi Wagoner ,?acting as the Director of CalRecycle, selected?Circular Action Alliance?to oversee a massive corporate fund required by law to address California's plastic pollution crisis. Three months later, she quit her government job. Just months later, she was hired to run the CAA. Now, she's lobbying the state to delay and degrade the rules that will oversee the industry group. It smells bad, doesn't it? California's first Producer Responsibility Organization for packaging has proven itself irresponsible. Hiring the recent Director of CalRecylce seems to violate state revolving door and ethics laws, putting CAA’s credibility at risk. Thank goodness we have strong state oversight of this Extended Producer Responsibility law. We are going to need it. and We need the?Gavin Newsom?administration to stay the course, release the regs, and call for her replacement to salvage this trainwreck. Stay vigilant Oregon, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Washington. Don't let CAA derail your EPR bills. AB 2236, the Plastic Bag Ban bill, has passed the Senate and heads to the Govenor's desk for signing. This is big news for curbing plastic pollution in our state. The bill replicates some of Berkeley's plastic bag 2.0 strategy, which passed in 2023. More proof that our collective local action can scale up to have a greater impact. https://lnkd.in/gmrDuN6X
