关于我们
We are a pediatrician-founded and led public health non-profit on a mission to help families and communities overcome barriers to eating well. As we emerge from the pandemic, more diet and lifestyle-related adverse health outcomes are plaguing children and adults alike. At the root of these issues is a reliance on ultra-processed foods low in essential nutrients, combined with an uptake in picky eating and the loss of a family culture around cooking and sharing meals. We offer practical and impactful solutions based on our founder’s 24 years of clinical pediatric experience and understanding of feeding development to create programs for early childhood educators and pediatricians to impact entire families, from babies to grandparents. Dr. Yum’s Preschool Food Adventure is a research-backed interactive curriculum that introduces preschoolers to the joy of eating fruits and vegetables. Written by a multidisciplinary team of child experts, The Adventure now serves more than 16,500 students in 37 states and three countries. Dr. Yum's Touchpoints, a program for pediatricians, teaches children and families healthy lifestyle behaviors in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics 2023 “Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Treatment of Children and Adolescents with Obesity.” Our website, DoctorYum.org is an ecosystem of free nutrition information for families, children, teachers and physicians. Highlights include our recipe catalog of over 220 recipes. Tools like Dr. Yum's Meal-o-Matic allow users to make a custom recipe with foods available at home. We feature blogs and articles written by a variety of experts and printable downloads for families, physicians, and food distribution sites in both English and Spanish. The Dr. Yum Project is a proud Council Member at Tufts University Nutrition Innovation Institute and founding member of the Partnership for a Healthier America’s cross-sector nutrition campaign, “Veggies Early and Often.”

Exciting news from the Health Education Journal!? A newly published study highlights the effectiveness of Dr. Yum’s Food Adventure, our pre-K, Kindergarten and feeding therapy nutrition program, in encouraging young children to explore and enjoy healthy foods. The study found the group of 614 Head Start students in North Alabama who participated in Dr. Yum’s Food Adventure had significant improvements in feeding attitudes and behaviors. Also, it demonstrated that participation in the program may help to normalize BMI in high and low-weight children. This suggests that hands-on nutrition education can shape healthier eating habits and overall health from an early age. This research reinforces what we’ve seen firsthand implementing this approach in 40 states—when kids are engaged in cooking and food exploration, they develop a lifelong appreciation for nutritious foods. The fact that this study was completed during the very difficult challenges of the COVID pandemic and still had such promising results is exciting. The Dr. Yum Project is a public health non-profit on a mission to help families and communities overcome barriers to eating well. Programs like Dr. Yum’s Food Adventure are paving the way for a new generation of adventurous eaters! ?? Want to learn more? Read about our work at https://lnkd.in/e7wdGRfg ?? It's #GivingTuesday! Support our nation's dedicated school food service teams like Brian?Kiernan's at the Fredericksburg City Public Schools. He knows?school nutrition isn’t just about serving healthy meals—it’s about making sure kids eat them! Almost 10 years ago, Brian introduced Dr. Yum's Food Adventure to his kids, teachers, and parents to teach them how to enjoy healthy food intentionally. The result? A district that leads the state in fresh produce purchases and decreases its pizza purchases and?food waste?every year! Hear Brian's story below. Your donation, no matter the size, will let at-risk kids join Dr. Yum's Food Adventure and teach them to enjoy and eat the healthy food being introduced in school cafeterias across the country.
