????? Hispanic Heritage Month: A Time for Reflection and Celebration????? Hola, everyone!??? The HR team at?The Donovan’s Venom?is excited to welcome you to our weekly?Professional Learning & Development?series. This week, we highlighted?Hispanic Heritage Month, which honored the rich histories, cultures, and invaluable contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities to the United States. ? What is Hispanic Heritage Month? Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15th to October 15th, highlighted the achievements and influence of Hispanic Americans. It began as a week-long celebration in 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson and was later expanded to a full month in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan. The dates coincided with the independence days of several Latin American countries, including Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. ?? Why was it Important?? - Hispanic Heritage Month provided an opportunity to recognize the profound impact that Hispanic Americans made across various fields—art, literature, politics, science, and beyond. Figures like?Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice,?Sylvia Rivera, and?Dolores Huerta?made significant contributions that shaped U.S. history. - With over?62 million?Hispanic and Latinx individuals in the U.S., this month was not only a celebration of their rich cultural contributions but also a time to raise awareness of challenges such as representation, access to education, and economic inequality. Beyond their societal impact, Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated the vibrant traditions—Latin American cuisine, music, festivals, and customs that became cherished parts of the American experience. Let’s remember to continue uplifting Hispanic voices and stories in our workplaces and communities! ?? ? From 0 to 8 to 108! A story of PRIDE! I am overwhelmed with so much pride this morning.? Before I share why, please allow me to reintroduce myself. I am The Donovan. Today is June 10th, 2024; But many eons ago, I began life as a young black queer boy from Harlem, navigating the harsh streets of New York City in the 90s. It was a time before gentrification when drugs, violence, and gangs were rampant, and being homosexual was a dangerous taboo that could get you seriously hurt, abandoned, bullied, and disowned. That was my reality not long ago, but I didn’t let it break me. And then music saved me. I've never cared about anything so deeply, never loved something so passionately. Music is the one discipline I'm good at, Yet the subject I’m always studying and learning. Music is the one thing I'll always do. Until I am no more! Until I am back into the abyss from which I came…Music is my life's blood, IT IS MY VENOM! “The Donovan’s Venom!” ?My passion for music and the birth of The Donovan’s Venom gave me the mission to share it with others. Working tirelessly and often alone my goal was to infect as many humans as possible, with music, with love, and with light. Now, with the help of 108 active and AMAZING team members at The Donovan's Venom 501c3, we can provide music’s transformative and magical opulance to anyone who wishes to receive it, and I will never be alone again. I couldn't be more humble and grateful, yet so full of PRIDE. From zero to eight to 108! 108 incredible humans have united to push a vision forward—the vision of a lonely queer boy who believed that music could save the world just as it saved him.
