What should you look for in a pet care provider? Today I facilitated an honest conversation with Christopher Pachel DVM, DACVB, CABC at dvm360? Fetch Charlotte about the lack of regulation in the dog daycare and boarding industry. While no one likes government overreach, we NEED to have some basic parameters in place. It's understandably difficult for veterinarians to feel confident recommending a pet care provider and pet parents don't know what questions to ask. They often assume that there must be some type of education or certification requirement in place to take care of pets, but there is NOTHING required on the non-medical side of the industry. At Social Pet Hotel and Daycare, we pride ourselves on continuing education and certification opportunities for our team, utilizing platforms such as The Dog Gurus, FetchFind, Fear Free, LLC, Paramount Success Group, Professional Animal Care Certification Council (PACCC), Paragon School Of Pet Grooming, and many more. Staying current on best practices is critical and we love learning about ways to continuously improve our care. Here's a great checklist from Professional Animal Care Certification Council (PACCC) that outlines what to look for in a pet care provider. If you're a pet professional, have these available for clients when they tour daycare and boarding facilities. If you're a pet parent, ask about these things on your next facility tour or pet sitter meet and greet!
