Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of visiting 123 Farm with Michael D. Ham. His company, Wild Orchard, the worlds first Regenerative Organic Certified tea, held an awesome tea festival where we sampled the various Wild Orchard products and some grown right on the farm. Michael spoke for almost an hour about their farm on Jeju Island off South Korea’s southern coast. We went deep with what it takes to be R.O.C. and the benefit it brings to the farm, farmers, and the ultimate customer. It’s companies like Wild Orchard that fuel our mission at DisCo. Michael’s product is an ancient one. It’s not flashy. Doesn’t claim some insane value prop (although it’s very healthy). It’s a spectacular product in subtle, beautiful packaging that helps keep their little corner of Juju island thriving. If you are a tea drinker, Wild Orchard needs a spot in your cabinet and cup.

Jordan B. hosted a fantastic webinar this afternoon concerning bill-backs, fees, etc from major distributors. An entire ecosystem of awesome companies has sprung up leveraging AI and new tech to help brands and manufacturers combat any "incorrect" bills. I can't help but think of why this is happening in the first place. Think of how much time/money/opportunity cost is spent by brands fighting these deductions and fees. That time/money can be spent developing the brand, building new SKUs, traveling to visit customers. ~30% just to get to the shelf is ROUGH. Do the major distributors provide brands and manufacturers an "in" to thousands of doors and shelves? Absolutely. They're certainly not going away. What we are building at DisCo is drastic simplification of what a distributor does. No fees, none, ever. Unless we decide to split marketing costs, invest in a DSD route, or another brand BUILDING activity, your financial obligation to DisCo ends when we receive and pay for your product. That is it. At most major distributors, if the product doesn't sell as well as you thought, you have to pick it up. Not only does that cost a ton of money, it adds to WASTE. Why not partner with a Sharing Excess and donate any PERFECTLY GOOD FOOD to a local organization that can use it while limiting carbon footprint of moving everything around? EVERYBODY EATS!!!!!

Specialty Food Association Summer Fancy Food show was awesome. Tons of great feedback on what we are trying to built at The DisCo. Amazing how far simplicity and transparency can get you. Some quick highlights and pics below. Coolest product was for sure Food Crayon. Hard to describe but its solid seasoning in a crayon shape that you shave into your food. Cannot wait to see how they grow. Best tasting was for sure the Mush Foods line. 50% mushroom 50% high quality meat. Insanely flavorful and juicy. 50% lower greenhouse gas emissions and a delicious burger? Me likey. Yaupon Brothers American Tea is a favorite in the Abadin house. Yaupon is the only American grown caffeinated plant. If you like yerba mate or green tea, give it a shot. Some honorable mentions: Norman Love Confections candies (the pretty candy rainbow picture ) AR's Hot Southern Honey spicy peanut butter (are you kidding???) Swee is the best tasting non-dairy ice cream I've ever tried. Can't wait for 2025!
