Jacob Evanek, UVM technician, Utility Vegetation Management (UVM) services, Davey Resource Group, was in the middle of doing a hazard tree patrol for a utility client in Horseheads, New York, when he came across a house with a tree that needed to be removed. After approaching, he saw the two front doors were left open. Jacob knocked but didn't hear a response, so he looking inside to find an elderly man lying on the ground, unable to get up. He left the house to call the man's family member due to the lack of phone service in the area and came back to find two other family members pulling up to the property. Together, they lifted the man onto the couch before Jacob went with one of the family members to her house down the street to call Emergency Medical Services. "We come across so many different situations with different people, and when somebody is in clear need of help, we have to do something," he said. "If I were in the homeowner's shoes, I'd want somebody there if I'm not doing well." Thank you, Jacob, for living Davey's integrity value!

After a Southwest U.S. communications company upgraded to fiber lines, Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) was called to help remove old copper drop wires from homes and businesses in several states. Today is America Recycles Day! Earlier this year, Davey was proud to announce the opening of its biochar facility in East Dundee, Illinois. This facility will recycle wood waste from client properties and turn it into an environmentally friendly soil additive, biochar. What exactly is biochar? Biochar is a carbon-rich charcoal-like substance that offers many benefits to the soil. Just to name a few of the many benefits of biochar: * It helps with nutrient retention. * It remediates salt and heavy metals in the soil. * It prevents soil compaction * Biochar can be used in lawn care and vegetable gardens too. Twelve Davey offices in the Chicago area recycle biomass into biochar.
