The Dallas City Council authorized $42 million for the next phase of deck parks over Interstate 30, which supporters say will transform the southern half of the city. The vote on Wednesday authorized payments from the convention center construction fund to amend an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for a deck park on Lamar Street and for the city’s portion of building a deck park near Old City Park.

I spent several months this year taking an in-depth look into the city of Dallas's lead removal program. ?Here’s what we found: Dallas received $2.3M to remove lead from residents’ homes. Many are still waiting. More than 90 residents asked for help. Only 53 houses were inspected, and only four received lead abatement. Then, the city returned $1.8 million in unused federal funding. If you’ve flown domestic in the U.S. in the last four years, you’ve likely faced at least one or two flight delays or cancellations —or worse, complete system outages—and found yourself footing the bill, without recourse from the airlines. But there’s potential relief on the horizon: The Biden Administration is working full steam ahead on a proposed rule that would require U.S. airlines to provide compensation to passengers for controllable cancellations or delays of three hours or more. #aviation #travel #bidenadministration #airlines

Despite receiving millions of dollars in federal funding, the city of Dallas has failed to administer the program to remove lead from residents’ houses, a Dallas Morning News investigation found. Exposure to lead can lead to health problems, especially for young children. The city spent about $400,000 from the grant, while about $1.8 million remained unused, according to a financial report submitted to the federal government earlier this year. The city returned most of the funds, leaving multiple residents exposed to the effects of lead. By María Ramos Pacheco #CityofDallas #LeadPaint #CityFunding #Investigation

Dallas’ former Matt’s Rancho Martinez, which closed after nearly 35 years in Lakewood, will become an Italian restaurant, market and speakeasy in 2025. Serritella, as the 250-seat Italian steakhouse will be called, takes up the largest section of the generous 10,000 square-foot restaurant. It will be designed as an upscale Italian restaurant serving steaks, pastas and pizzas from executive chef and culinary director Ryan Ferguson, who was recently the head chef at Nonna and Fachini in Highland Park. Dallas Area Rapid Transit appointees failed to pass the agency’s budget for fiscal year 2025 Tuesday amid ongoing disagreements on how to approach spending. Committee-of-the-Whole members diverged Tuesday and during an August meeting about whether to proactively reduce its 1.6% year-over-year budget growth in light of member cities’ desire to reduce sales tax contributions to DART by a quarter. That growth includes a 5.5% increase in the operating budget. By Amber Gaudet #DART #DallasTransportation #DallasBudget
