Pride is celebration. Pride is protest. Pride is community. At the Dallas LGBT Bar Association pride is progress. In 2023, with the support of our sponsors, allied judges, and members we were able to award scholarships to four outstanding LGBTQ+ law students, a first for our organization. This year, our call to champion LGBTQ+ law students in Texas must be louder and bolder as anti-DEI laws have curtailed or completely abolished school-based support of students from diverse and marginalized communities. One of my pilot efforts last year was to expand the impact of The Dallas LGBT+ Bar Association's celebration of Pride during the month of June to establish a scholarship fund. With the support of our sponsors, allied judges, and members we were able to award scholarships to four outstanding LGBTQ+ law students, a first for our organization. This year I am excited to announce the return of Let's Get Proud! on Thursday, June 13th. Now more than ever, students from marginalized communities and "non-traditional" backgrounds need to know they are welcomed and wanted in the practice of law. We must be intentional in our efforts to inject equity into the pipeline to our profession. I invite my colleagues, fellow Allied bars, and LGBTQ+ affirming law firms to join us in supporting this Pride Celebration + Scholarship Social. Joy encouraged. Glitter optional.

The Dallas LGBT Bar Association held our Spring Name + Gender Marker Clinic this weekend to great success! Despite the downpour, volunteer attorneys, paralegals, law students and community members still rallied to support over 30 participants seeking identification documents that accurately reflect their gender identity.
