Today we would like to highlight DAISY Honoree Erica Burnham! A kid was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him injured and helpless. Erica sprang into action and was able to tie off his wounds to stop the bleeding and coach another person on how to help her. She kept the boy calm until the police arrived. Since his parents were not there, Erica stayed with him until he was ready to go to the hospital. Thank you, Erica, for everything you did for this boy. Congratulations on being a DAISY Honoree! 关于我们
The Barnes Family started DAISY in 1999 to say a profound thank you to nurses for the extraordinary skill and compassion they provide patients and families every day. Our experience with nurses during son Patrick Barnes' eight week hospitalization showed us that direct care nurses do super-human work that is rarely recognized. We had no idea that today, more than 5,000 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing in all 50 states and 32 other countries and territories would honor their nurses all year long with The DAISY Award. Over 2,100,000 nominations have been written, describing how a nurse has impacted a patient or family. Clearly, the Barnes Family are not the only people compelled to say thank you to nurses! The strategic value of this kind of meaningful recognition is now being proven in research study after study. Impacts include contribution to a healthy work environment, nurse satisfaction, compassion satisfaction, patient satisfaction, and cultural transformation. It's remarkable what happens when a healthcare organization focuses some attention on all the good that's going on. We also honor nursing students with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students and nursing faculty with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty. Through our J. Patrick Barnes Grants, we support nursing research and EBP projects with grants to nurses.

In our second 2024 #MomentsThatMatter video with The DAISY Foundation, we meet Monica Targett, MS, BSN, RN from Dell Children’s Medical Center, who transformed a family’s hospital experience. From reuniting a newborn with siblings for the first time, to creating a welcoming space, and even sewing a handmade #Halloween costume, Monica’s compassion left a lasting impact. Her kindness went beyond care, creating #MeaningfulMoments for an entire family. Watch the full story and stay tuned for more #MTM stories at nurses.com! This article hit home for me. When Patrick was in the hospital, the nurses asked us to post a photo of him from before he got sick on the frame of his hospital room door. Everyone who came in his room got to see Patrick as a vibrant, healthy young Dad and husband, and they asked about him. This meant so much to Mark, Tena, and me. So to see this practice documented by #AmericanJournalofCriticalCare touched my heart. Thank you to this research team at NYC Health + Hospitals! This work will make a difference! https://lnkd.in/gqHrB5cv #DAISYFoundation Christopher Wilson, MSN, RN, CNML, CENP, NEA-BC, FACHE Natalia Cineas DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN Tena Carraher
