The Crown Estate is a significant national landowner with a diverse £16bn portfolio that includes urban centres and development opportunities; one of the largest rural holdings in the country; Regent Street and St James’s in London’s West End; and Windsor Great Park. We also manage the seabed and much of the coastline around England, Wales and Northern Ireland, playing a major role in the UK’s world leading offshore wind sector. We are a unique business with a unique heritage. Set up by an Act of Parliament, and occupying a space between the public and private sector, we act independently and commercially to grow the value of the portfolio for the nation. We are a company for the country and all of our net revenue profit goes to the Treasury for the benefit of the nation’s finances. This has totalled more than £4bn over the last ten years. Through our activities and investments, we create national environmental, social and financial value both for now and into the long term.

?? Thrilled to announce we’ve funded five new projects through our Offshore Wind Evidence and Change programme that will support the nation’s path towards a #NetZero and energy-secure future, whilst enabling our marine and coastal ecosystems to thrive. These initiatives are led by the Offshore Wind Industry Council, Scottish Government's Marine Directorate, Historic England, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult with support from numerous public, private and charitable organisations. The projects will aim to: ?? fill critical evidence gaps around the impacts of offshore wind farms on marine ecosystems, ?? advance solutions to reduce those impacts, ?? enhance access to #MarineData and ?? explore the opportunity for co-location of #fisheries and #OffshoreWind farms. Congratulations to our partners that will be leading on these vital projects. Your collaboration is key to driving sustainable change. Windsor Great Park Adventure Play is to be awarded the Themed Entertainment Association’s prestigious THEA Awards, one of the greatest honours in the themed visitor experience industry?? Since opening in July 2023 we have welcomed over 130,000 visitors. The impressive playground was sustainably built to the highest standards using traditional skills and timber from within the estate. Last week, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult published an insightful report setting out a new approach to environmental monitoring and consenting within the UK’s offshore wind sector! Identifying opportunities for timely interventions to de-risk consent, and recognising the opportunities that technology can bring, are welcome. These are important in driving forward our world-leading sector and creating the world’s most attractive and sustainable marine economy!
?? LATEST NEWS: We're excited to unveil a new report that sets out a route to transform environmental consenting in UK offshore wind! The report calls for the adoption of a 'Regional Ecosystem Monitoring Programme' (REMP), which would assess the environmental impacts of offshore wind projects at a regional level, rather than the current project-by-project approach. The report also recommends: ?? Adopting an independent body to oversee and facilitate the process. ? Removing the ‘scoping phase’ from the pre-application stage of the environmental consenting process. ?? Adopting an ecosystem-based approach to monitoring. ?? Embracing innovative monitoring tech, such as #robotics and #AI to enable multiscale, concurrent analysis. Dr Caroline Whalley, Environmental Specialist for ORE Catapult and author of the report, said: “???? ?????????????????????????? ???? ?? ???????????????? ?????????? ??????????????????-?????????? ???????????????? ???? ????????????????????, ???? ?????? ???????? ?? ???????? ???????????????? ???????? ???? ???????????????? ?????? ???? ???? ???????????? ?????????????? ?????? ???????? ???????????????? ?????????????????? ?????????? ???????????? ?????????????????????? ???????????????? ???????? ????????????????????.” This work was carried out as part of the 'Accelerating Consenting for Offshore Renewables Deployment’ (ACORD) project, with support from the University of Aberdeen and Howell Marine Consulting.
