Based in St. Louis, Missouri, The Covering House is a therapeutic recovery program for youth who have been sexually trafficked. Programs include residential, Community-Based Services (CBS), and Reducing the Risk. The Level III youth residential facility?provides 24/7 residential care to minors for a period of 12-14 months. Residential services include individual and group therapy, specialized therapy (equine horticultural, culinary, arts + expression, etc.), a full in-house education, nutrition, recreation, experiential learning, and sensory integration. The youth residential facility is staffed by licensed therapists, degreed educators, and trauma-informed trained Youth Development Specialists (YDS). Community-Based Services (CBS)?provides intensive therapy and case management to clients in their homes when the biological and foster families are stable and intensive residential care is not required. CBS also provides aftercare to clients graduating from our program who need ongoing stability services. Prevention and Early Intervention?programs include?Reducing the Risk and Trafficking 101.?Both curriculums are designed to educate students/faculty/parents on red flags, protective factors and recovery services specific to sex trafficking. While not everything we do is therapy, every interaction with clients is therapeutic. The Covering House’s primary objective is to recover minor survivors of sex trafficking emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Since 2009, The Covering House has served 440+ children and teens and educated 11,000+ at-risk youth on trafficking red flags and self-protective behaviors.

Sextortion is when someone tricks a person into sending usually sexually explicit photos or videos online and then blackmails them. Teenage boys are the most common victims for this and sadly online exploitation is increasing. 2. Victims tend to know their trafficker. Familial trafficking is highly common and the “older boyfriend” pimps are good at grooming young people to manipulate and control them. 3. Open, honest communication with children and teens goes a long way. Talk to the kids in your life about consent, grooming, and trafficking. Let them know they have a safe place to ask questions and bring their concerns. 4. Monitor your children’s devices and screen time. At the Tim Tebow Foundation, we believe in bringing freedom to the exploited by standing alongside those on the front lines of the fight against child exploitation. Through the support of our giving family, we were honored to stand alongside Onemi-Global Solutions and International Center for Missing Exploited Children (ICMEC) in successfully concluding an intensive two-week Victim Identification in Child Exploitation training and live-data operation in Bangkok, Thailand.? ? Operation Children’s Shield of Thailand 2025 stands as one of the most impactful operations we have had the privilege to support, bringing the total number of successful operations we’ve helped facilitate worldwide to 10 over the last 2 years. We know that operations like “Children’s Shield of Thailand 2025” are a strong beacon of hope—a direct response to the urgent need for change. As Camille Cooper, our VP of Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation, so powerfully reminds us:? ? “Every operation fueled by the love of our giving family—our Defenders and those who have answered the call of our unKNOWN campaign—is a life-changing moment for these precious children. Each offender taken off the streets can potentially prevent the abuse of hundreds of children.” The impact of this operation extends far beyond the 70 offenders identified. Research shows that each CSAM offender has on average, 13 victims—meaning that the ripple effect of this work could potentially safeguard over 900 children from further harm. These are not just numbers; they are precious lives—children who deserve to be seen, rescued, and given the opportunity to heal.
Children don’t have to be missing to be trafficked. At NCMEC, we see cases where children live at home, attend school, and are trafficked by their mom, dad, or other family members—a form of exploitation called familial trafficking. Today, the Doe v. Twitter legal team concluded oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. This case involves two teen boys who had their CSAM posted on Twitter. When they notified the platform about the criminal images, Twitter confirmed their age and the pornographic nature of these images, and then refused to remove them from their platform. John Does 1 and 2 filed suit, but the Court dismissed it pursuant to the federal immunity for tech platforms - Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Today, we proudly represent John Does 1 and 2 before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in arguing why CDA 230 should not apply and our clients deserve their day in Court.
