“We hope to recruit the next generation of leadership, people who are mid-career and have already accomplished things,” CMS-A Executive Director, Julie Cohen Theobald, shared with WineBusiness Monthly. “Hopefully, someday they’ll become Master Sommeliers.” Building on the success of our inaugural event, the second annual Women’s Sommelier Symposium in Santa Barbara in March, empowered a new generation of women sommeliers. Chosen from more than 100 applicants, 10 women who showcased significant leadership potential were selected to participate in the Symposium with fully sponsored travel. The goal for our second year was to ignite a more significant change in the industry by creating a safe and supportive space for women sommeliers. We'll continue to do so. ?? The Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas (CMS-A) had the incredible opportunity to meet with Katherine Lee from the Agricultural Trade Office at the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). This milestone meeting, represented by CMS-A Board Members Liz Ngonzi and Master Sommelier Christopher Bates, highlighted a shared commitment to promoting U.S. wine and advancing the sommelier community in Taiwan. Katherine’s gracious hospitality and insightful guidance are invaluable as CMS-A continues its efforts to expand internationally. We’re particularly grateful for the potential inclusion of the AIT Director in future programs, a testament to the strength of this collaboration and the exciting possibilities ahead! Our discussions centered around enhancing collaboration to elevate U.S. wine’s presence in Taiwan while empowering local sommeliers through CMS-A’s educational programs and certifications.
