Council Interviews at SXSW EDU – Part Two! The Council team has been diving into incredible sessions, gaining valuable insights into the future of early childhood education. We explored innovative concepts like the power of counter spaces in communities—creating supportive environments where educators and families can thrive. It solidified our approach for the Council Alumni Network (CAN), igniting ideas for further engaging educators and supporters through affinity groups. A standout session on the use of AI with Black children, led by National Black Child Development Institute, sparked important conversations about equity and technology in early learning. We also had the privilege of sponsoring and attending the MAKE A CIRCLE Film screening and panel, which highlighted the importance of building strong, inclusive communities for early educators. Last month, the Council’s Director of Government Relations, Louie Lujan, and Government Relations Manager, Haley Brush, attended National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)'s Public Policy Forum. During the forum, Haley served on a panel following the Council-sponsored screening of MAKE A CIRCLE Film, emphasizing the need to increase wages and compensation for early educators and sharing advocacy strategies for Hill meetings. We also had the opportunity to engage with leaders in government to discuss the challenges facing ECE. Louie met with AZAEYC and the staff of Senators Mark Kelly, Ruben Gallego, and several House representatives. Haley, alongside Northern Virginia Association for the Education of Young Children and Virginia Association for the Education of Young Children, met with multiple House offices, Senator Mark Warner’s staff, and Senator Tim Kaine. It was wonderful to attend and engage with fellow leaders at this exciting forum.
