Happy Saint Patrick's Day! On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the Cornell Club-NY Partnered with the Cornell University Press to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early. Author John Loughery visited the Club to discuss his biography, Dagger John: Archbishop John Hughes and the Making of Irish America.

Why join the The Cornell Club-New York? How about an evening with rock star, novelist, playwright, and journalist Larry Kirwan? Larry visited the Club to discuss his novel about the 9/11 attacks and its effects on an Irish-American family. "Rockaway Blue" was published by the Cornell University Press. He also discussed: his immigration to the U.S.; his musical career and 25 years fronting the hard-working Irish Folk Rock band, Black 47; working as a playwright on Broadway; and much more. Larry Kirwan was born in Wexford, Ireland and lives in New York City.?He was leader of the political rock band Black 47 for 25 years, during which it: played 2,500 gigs; released 16 albums; and appeared on every major US TV show. He has written 3 novels: Liverpool Fantasy, Rockin' The Bronx, and Rockaway Blue; a memoir, Green Suede Shoes, and A History of Irish Music. Larry has written or collaborated on 21 plays and musicals; and conceived Paradise Square, nominated for 10 Tony Awards on Broadway, including one for Kirwan as co-book writer. It won the Tony Award for Best Actress. A political activist, he is an Irish Echo columnist and a celebrity host/producer of Celtic Crush on SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Last night, an impressive lineup of legal scholars, practitioners, and innovators came together to delve into the intersection of technology and law at Cornell Tech Presents: Transforming Legal Practice in the Era of AI. The discussions from this event served as a timely reminder of the profound shifts occurring within the legal field as AI continues to evolve and transform how legal services are delivered. “AI is worth it, but you need to do your homework,” said Nicola Shaver, CEO and Co-Founder of LegalTechnology Hub. “Don’t buy into AI for the sake of it; think about its use strategically. An AI program can work exactly as advertised, but if it doesn’t solve a problem, it’s a waste of resources. Make sure whatever you’re bringing on brings value to your team.” “Ultimately, AI is a tool available to you,” said Oz Benamram, Founder of SKILLS.law. “Don’t ignore it. Be transparent about when you use it, but use it just as you would any other tool at your disposal.” The speakers on the panel were Matt D’Amore, Director of the Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship Program and Professor of the Practice Cornell Tech and Cornell Law School; Oz Benamram, Founder of SKILLS.law; Scott Rechtschaffen JD ’84, Chief Knowledge Officer at Littler Mendelson; Meredith Williams-Range, Chief Legal Operations Officer at Gibson Dunn; and Nicola Shaver, CEO and Co-Founder of LegalTechnology Hub. The Era of AI series, co-hosted by The Cornell Club-New York and Cornell Tech, is gathering steam. Last night, we hosted our second session, Ventures for Good in the Era of AI, featuring Cornell Tech experts whose work is making the world a better place. Our panelists included three Cornell Tech founders who are building businesses with real impact: — Vince Hartman’s Abstractive Health reduces the time doctors spend on notes and other administrative tasks so they can focus on patient care. — Malwina Lewicka, PhD’s SaNexus uses conversational AI to support cancer patients through treatment and recovery. — Zain Abdelrazeq Toqan's Project B helps brands reduce waste by enabling AI-powered, on-demand apparel printing. As fellow panelist Kate Nicholson, Public Interest Technology (#PiTech) Director of Programs and Partnerships at Cornell Tech, put it: "At Cornell Tech, we’re not just putting technologists out in the world, but making sure the technologists we put in the world understand the problems we face and want to fix them." Fernando Gómez-Baquero Ph.D., who leads our Runway Startups Program, moderated the panel. Alexi Nazem, General Partner at AlleyCorp and member of the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute Steering Committee, kicked things off with opening remarks.
