Bell Works, once a center of groundbreaking research, now thrives as a communal space in Holmdel, New Jersey. ? ? Originally designed by Eero Saarinen, the building's glass facade and open, expansive interior created a revolutionary workspace for scientific breakthroughs. Today, Bell Works has transformed into a “metroburb”—a self-contained hub where office spaces, retail, dining, and public areas coexist.? ? Centrally located in the building’s atrium hangs Sebastien Courty’s “The Fabric of Bell”–a series of totems crafted from cables and fibers salvaged during Bell Labs’ transformation into Bell Works.? ? Lead Designer Paola Zamudio sought to preserve Saarinen’s vision while giving the space a new, communal purpose, creating an environment that reflects both the legacy of its Nobel Prize-winning research and the adaptability of its architecture.? ? Sebastien Courty’s “The Fabric of Bell” honors Bell Labs’ storied legacy and its eight Nobel Prizes with a design that commemorates the iconic Saarinen architecture of Bell Works. The installation, conceived alongside Paola Zamudio of npz studio+, taps into the building’s deep past while embracing its future as a “metroburb.” ? ? Courty’s handwoven wall totems–crafted from 95% recycled materials salvaged during Bell Labs’ transformation into Bell Works–echo the Bauhaus aesthetic with an industrial precision softened by organic, tactile warmth.? ? The design process was itself an homage: using copper and aluminum cables originally laid to carry scientific information, Courty split, reshaped, and stretched the fibers into yarn, weaving them on a floor loom into eight distinct panels–each standing as a relic of Bell Labs' history.? ? Emmanuel Fillion’s wall sculptures interrogate the body’s potential for motion, capturing its tensile elegance in materials both tangible and suggested. Rooted in ancient Greek aesthetics, his work embodies a sense of poised vitality that feels both timeless and immediate. In “Bas Relief Dancer,” a figure in piqué stretches upward, fingers brushing a veil of fabric, as though poised to step out from within the marble, dissolving the threshold between flesh and stone. ? ? Jonas Leriche's photography captures the relentless evolution of the spirit, exploring themes of life, death, transformation, and rebirth. For Leriche, life’s meaning is found in this constant state of becoming, a truth he captures through his camera lens. His work, often steeped in the imagery of nature, echoes the endless cycles of existence. The butterfly, a recurrent motif, symbolizes new beginnings, mirroring a time in Leriche’s own life when part of him died, making way for a new self to emerge. Leriche’s bond with nature is not merely thematic but deeply personal, rooted in a childhood spent outdoors. These early experiences saturate his work with nostalgia and a quest for self-rediscovery. By threading these elements into his photography, Leriche reconnects with his past while asking us to contemplate our own paths of growth and transformation. Limited edition print of “Introspective Dream,” signed by the artist Jonas Leriche. From its original.
