The transformation of the Carnegie Library at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum into “The Underground Library – An Archive of Our Truth” for the Making Home Design Triennial is an inspiring accomplishment. Guided by the vision of the Black Artists + Designers Guild curatorial team— Nina Cooke John, Malene Barnett, Penny Francis of Eclectic Home LLC, Jomo Tariku, and me —this project invites visitors to explore the library as a hidden reservoir of narratives. Through this reimagined space, the exhibit brings to life the principles of liberation through literacy and artistic expression. Thank you to Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and to Michelle Joan Wilkinson with NMAAHC Museum for making this possible.
